Hey Gurus,

Any word on the new dipole/bipole speaker(s) yet?  I noticed as I was reading through some old posts that Jason was hoping it would be available in April or May, but alas, it is June and we still have no info!  Also, will there be just one Verus surround speaker?  Or will there be a Verus equivalent for both the 4BP and 5DB?

Scott,

Yes, we are planning for them to be released around the 29th of August in both colors.  We are making sure they are going to be a superb item in anyone's home theater.

By your use of "they" and "them" are you hinting at two different speakers, or just the plural of one model speaker?

Yes, just the plural of one model.  I used those terms because they are generally used in pairs, and there will be two colors.

Matt – will this speaker be a "forte" or "grand"?

If it is a "forte", and someone had the grand towers and center, would you still recommend it for the surround speakers or would you recommend the 5DB instead?

Finally, if you do recommend pairing the 5DB with the grand fronts, will there be any high gloss black 5DBs coming into stock soon?

 Thanks!

Yes, the new Verus Dipole/Bipole is a Grand, and it will be voiced for all the Verus Grand and Forte products.  I definitely recommend it for use as a surround speaker.  The 5DB is only available in cherry, and when they are gone that is it.  They will not be re-issued in high gloss black unfortunately.  Now if you found a pair of 5DB, feel free to use them because they will work just fine as a surround speaker.  They don't need to be voiced matched for that application.

Thanks for asking.

Great information–I am really looking forward to a pair of these babies to go with my VGT and VGC!

Yes, they are going to be sweet!  I recently saw a black sample we've been voicing and it looks great.  It has a curved cabinet like the other Verus products so it will match well.

Let me know if you have any more questions

Can you guys release ball park pricing yet?  Or will we have to wait until August for that too? : )

Matt – hate to keep blasting away with questions – but will there be a pre-order time prior to the DB speakers coming out?  Thanks!

Hey guys,

So just to clarify the Verus Surround will use the smaller tweeter like the Verus Forte Center and Satellites but will be voiced to match with both the Forte and Grand lines.

We will start taking preorders either in late July or early August and will have the pricing nailed down then, but I think they will be in the $600-$700/pair range.

And you thought there could be no more questions!  So, I have read that di-pole speakers (or multi-mode speakers operated in di-pole mode) are supposed to be placed such that the "positive" sides are both facing the front of the room.  In the manual for a B&W surround di-pole speaker pair, it states that there is an arrow on the label on the back of each speaker telling you which one goes on the left and which one goes on the right side.  I read through the 5DB manual and did not notice any such comment.

Will there be arrows on the new versus DB speakers?  Or am I missing something and it actually does not matter?

It doesn't really matter, especially if you are sitting in the sound null and aren't hearing direct sound from the speaker, but the 5DBs were marked as left and right on their barcode skus, and I expect it will be the same for the Verus Surrounds as well, so if you are concerned about it you can use that as a guide as to which speaker you place on which wall.

Even if you weren't sitting in the null I doubt you would hear a difference if you swapped the speaker positions.
