I am planning on setting up a 5.1 surround speaker system. My room is quite small, 10 x 12 with 12 foot high ceilings. I just got a hand me down denon avr 1908 receiver. At first i was looking at the 4Ts with a 4c, an 8d and two 4bps. However, recently i have decided to just spend the money now instead of upgrading and going with the 5ts, 5c, and 5db that are on sale. I want my video games and movies to sound as good as possible, but i am a music fan at heart. I know the denon wont be a great amp for stereo listening but its what i got.

Im wondering what the best options for the fronts are if i want the best possible stereo system. My ultimate goal is to best my friends systems, all of whom have just gotten B&W 683s. I would not be opposed to going with a 6T tower but i fear that for my room size it would just be too much. Any advice at all would be great.

 Thanks

Hello and welcome to the forum!

The 6Ts are a lot of fire power for that small of a room, but tell me how far would you sit from the speakers usually?

Thanks!

I will be sitting about 10 ft from the speakers.

Ok at that distance you could definitely go for the 6Ts as the sound is fully dispersed from the speaker at about eight feet or so.

As for what you would get in comparison with the 5Ts the main benefits would be a fuller midrange and more bass extension.

I think you would probably be really happy with the 5Ts and in a room of that size there really won't be much difference betweenn it and the 6Ts for movies, but for music the 6T really is the best speaker that we make.

Hope that helps!

Is anyone using the 5T in a stereo setup? Also, do you think my 90 watt denon will give enough clean power for the 5T in stereo or should i look into separates to power the fronts?

I run a pair of 5Ts in stereo for music in my upstairs set up.

At 10 feet you should be able to push the 5Ts to about 95 dB before running into clipping with that AVR, so in my opinion you should be just fine.

It's easy to get buyers anxiety when deciding on a purchase. A lot of this stuff has to do with room size, setup, etc. I can tell you that i am perfectly happy with my 5T's stereo performance in my 12×20 room sitting 12 feet away with less than ideal room arrangement.  I can also tell you that i would be perfectly happy with my mothers 4T's in her 15×15 living room with optimal room arrangment.  I couldn't really give a fair comparison between the two because they are in two completely different rooms.

But you must know Aperion offers the 30 day risk free in home trial.  It would not make you a bad person if you ordered both the 4T's and 5T's for comparison at home and sent the pair you didn't want back.  If it were me, my personal preference would be to just go with the 4T's/5C/4B or 4BP in that room size, set em up, enjoy em and move on…Honestly, you're saving coin in your pocket on a system that nobody could knock, and your freinds would drool over the high quality finish/craftsmanship .  The 4T's are a very nice speaker!  It's not the type of speaker you'd settle for, it's a speaker you'd choose whether you were trying to save money or not.  And aesthetically would probably look more appropriate in that room size.

But in the end, if all you care about is besting your Friends B&W's, then by all mean go with the 6T's.  But on the flip side if you went with the 4T's, and your freinds say "Wow, that sounds good" wouldn't it be nice to tell them that you spent about half as much as they did :)

 Best of luck,

Dan.

Th 6T's would definitely be pushing it. My room is 11 x 12 and i wouldn't even think of putting that in here. I'm trying to decide on either the 4T or 5T for my room. Looking to go with a 3.1 system. I don't think rears are necessary in that size of a room

This is an old topic, but being that the Intimus line is being discontinued I was wondering if there are still any happy 5t owners out there, or have you all traded them in for the higher end Forte Verus or Grand towers?

Wish the 6ts were still available, but since they are not I may have to settle for the 5ts because I can’t swing it for the neither of the Forte series.

Oh well, it was worth a try. Even in this forum I couldn’t find much in the way of 5t owners or topics.

Ben,

I know you are looking for other customer opinions, but I can chime in and say that I still use my 5Ts for my home theater set up and think they are great for that application.

I have a two channel set up just for music with the Verus Grand Towers too, but honestly for just movies/TV I think they would be overkill in my room.

I hope that helps but please let me know if you have any other questions, thanks!

Thanks for getting back to me Jason. It is tough getting other opinions about the 5t so I appreciate your input. Almost every Forum I have checked out that had a topic about the 5T would end up with some other brand of speaker being recommended instead of the 5t. Usually the EMP towers, probably because of their price ($347 each) and multiple reviews available for that speaker, and probably because it has multiple drivers and kinda resembles the verus grand. There were hardly any reviews for the 5t, except for a older review about an obsolete home theater system with 5db’s that are no longer available. Nothing on U-Tube either although there are many other brands represented there by owners, usually crappy sounding videos due to less than optimal camera mics, especially with subwoofer videos.

Head on over the AVS Forums. Here is a link to the last page. I have read this whole thing, of course over time. It was not quite this many pages when I bought my speakers a few years back..but I continue following it. It was the advice from AVS folks that led me to my purchase. I dont regret it one bit!!

Good to see you here again Scottie!

Yes, AVS Forum is a great resource and of course you will find me over there too!

As for the EMPs I think they are a good value, but I have heard them in the same room as our speakers and thought the midrange was a bit recessed by comparison with ours. I may be biased but Caleb Denison of Digital Trends was in the room and heard the same thing.

Interestingly enough, I have also heard the E5Ti that they don’t make anymore and preferred that to the 55Ti. I could speculate on the why, but suffice to say the midrange sounded quite a bit better in that model to my ears.

In any event there are few pro reviews out there, here is the most recent one which is only about a year old:

http://www.goodsound.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=386:aperion-audio-intimus-5t-loudspeakers&catid=56:equipment-reviews&Itemid=37

And here’s another older one too:

http://www.soundstagexperience.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=145

But you’ll know soon enough whether they are the speakers for you since we will have them back in stock in a week and a half or so.

I hope that helps, thanks for your patience while we waited for the next shipment to get here!

Well, the 5ts are on the way. They should be here by Wednesday. I already have the 5C center so lets see how it goes. Do these speakers need to be toed in any? I am sitting between 8 or 10 foot away. They will be replacing some 30 year old 4ohm impedance full range speakers that weigh 62pounds each that didn’t require toe in, and that I shouldn’t be running with the Denon AVR-1912. Shame on me, I’ve been running them for over 2 years like that, guess I am lucky I haven’t smoked my receiver yet. Having 6ohm impedance all around should help the receiver. I’ll be pairing the 5ts with a couple of SVS subs. Should I set the 5t’s as large speakers, or small? LFE+MAINS, or just LFE? Guess I’ll just play around with that to see what is best.
