Ok, my new receiver and speakers (Marantz 1604 and Intimus 4T towers) aren’t even here yet (hurry up FedEx!) but I’m already starting to think about my next step. I listen to mostly music (classic rock, jam bands) and TV, movies a distant third. My room is more an open loft space style so I understand the limitations of that. I won’t be playing things at very high volumes and know that the bass will suffer somewhat as well. So with all that said, which would you recommend be my next step?

Hello Tuomas,

For mostly music I would probably lean toward the subwoofer first, but if you find that you are having trouble with hearing TV dialogue then a center channel will be the remedy.

My best advice would be to spend a bit of time with just the 4Ts and then try to evaluate what you feel you are missing the most, deep bass or dialogue intelligibility.

I hope that helps but please let me know if you have any other questions, thanks!

Thanks for the suggestions. Everything came in today so I’ve just started my listening. So far for music things seem about as good as I could have expected. I’ll probably end up getting the subwoofer first, followed by the center. But more listening is the plan for now.

One question on the center channel, if I choose a 5C center to go with the 4Ts is there any issue there? Thanks again!

Excellent glad to hear you are enjoying the 4Ts thus far!

No issue at all, the 4 and 5 series Intimus speakers are timbre matched and the 4T/5C combination is a common one since the 5C is a considerable step up over the 4C in terms of dialogue clarity and detail.

If you have room for the 5C I highly recommend it, I think you will be really happy with it.
