My ages old Logitech Z680’s passed away the other day. I got some B&W MM-1’s, which sound ok, but the speaker arrangements don’t fit my desk well and they lack a little “oomf” at times, so I’ve dusted off an old Denon 487 receiver and am planning to set up speakers with it. I was thinking of VG bookshelves, for the time being, and then adding on over time. Would these work? Would Forte’s be better? Your thoughts would be appreciated.

    Hello there,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, but I think the Verus Grand Bookshelves might be a bit of overkill for a desktop system. It’s not that they will sound bad, but they are pretty good sized bookshelf and they just might be more than you really need.

Have you looked at the Zona Wireless Speakers? That might be the way to go since you wouldn’t need a receiver. You would just connnect the transmitter to your computer via USB, plug in the speakers to AC power and you are good to go.

If you definitely want to go wired and use the Denon then you might think about the Intimus 5Bs as an in between option regarding the Verus Grand Bookshelves and the Verus Forte Satellites.

However if you have your heart set on the Verus Grand Bookshelves then you can certainly go for it, they are indeed great speakers in my admittedly biased opinion.

I hope that helps but please let me know if you have any other questions, thanks!
