Currently I have a 5.1 Home theater setup (6T fronts, 6C, and 5B surrounds).  My room is about 28×15 but I have everything setup width wise.  Tv is centered on one 28' wall with the couch across from it on the other 28' wall.  Obviously this doesn't lend itself to rear surround speakers so I've been looking at adding front wides and front heights.  Unfortunately my current receiver (SC-25) doesn't support this so I need to upgrade that… but I've got some questions about speakers before I get there.  I was thinking of upgrading my receiver around fall 2012 but…

My previous intention was use a pair of 6Bs for front wides and a pair of 4Bs as front heights (a little uncomfortable hanging anything heavier from the ceiling although I'm sure even 5Bs would be fine).  But it seems that 6Bs are no longer available?  So now I'm looking at the Versus Grand Bookshelf but wondering how it will sound mixed with a bunch of other Intimus speakers.  Maybe I should use 5Bs for front wides instead… but how much longer are those going to be available?  It's definitely not in the budget to upgrade everything to Versus speakers.  My worry is that the Intimus line will disappear completely before I get my receiver upgraded.  Thoughts?  My listening habits are about 50% movies / 50% games (PS3) and my subwoofer is an SVS PC12-PLUS if that makes a difference.

     Thanks!

    Hello there,

That's correct the 6B was discontinued last year in favor of the Verus Grand Bookshelves.   The Intimus and Verus lines technically are not timbre matched to each other, however they do not sound drastically different to my ear and can be used together.  But if you think that is something that will bother you then the 5Bs are probably the safer bet.  The 5Bs will be around indefinitely but the finishes are now different as the Intimus speakers have moved to a vinyl wrap, which is in ash black and a cherry that matches with the previous cherry finish fairly well.  However if you do want the 5Bs in gloss black I do happen to have two pairs left in stock.  They aren't on the website but still probably will not last long, so if you are interested in ordering them please give me a call at 888-880-8992 as soon as you can.

But if the vinyl wrap 5B will work, or you want to try the VGBs then you don't have to be in any rush.

I hope that helps but please let me know if you have any other questions, thanks!
