I wanted to post a few pics of my system here and to say how happy I am with my speakers. The workmanship is exquisite and the sound even better–imaging is supreme. I decided to angle them in just a bit to get the imaging just right. I had originally planned to have my theater in a rather large family room but decided after I got my speakers and sub that I wanted a more intimate experience–both visual and audio. So I moved everything into a small and intimate 10×12 ft room. I think I made the right move as everything has improved–sound, video, and bass. Now I feel like I am in a theater not just on the couch!May 1, 2011 at 10:14 am #1961
I know one of the tips for removing the grill is to pinch the fabric but I just don't have it in me to try that–and I can't seem to find a magnet around the house so until I do, I'll have to settle for pics with the grills on.May 1, 2011 at 10:18 am #1962
The SVS PC13-Ultra is probably a bit of overkill for this size room but it has great sound and the lows are incredible–I have it configured with one port over to extend bass to 16hz and it does indeed shake the room. And it works great with the Verus speakers–but I do let the Ultra do the heavy lifting and have the speakers crossover set to 80.May 1, 2011 at 10:19 am #1963
A better view of the room and speakers.May 1, 2011 at 10:21 am #1964
And a closer view of the right Verus Grand.May 1, 2011 at 10:26 am #1965
Another view of the current surrounds–Def Tech 800s. But I want to see if I can make the switch to 7.1 in the future. I am going to hold out for now while Aperion works on their new Dipolar/Bipolar speaker for the Verus line. But I am not sure now to proceed to make this 7.1. As you can see, the door is right where the perfect spot would be to mount the speakers on the side. So what other possibilities do I have? Or would it be best to just stick with 5.1 and just replace the Def Techs with the new Aperions when they are available? Maybe the gurus can offer their options on the best approach.May 1, 2011 at 1:54 pm #2104
I wouldn't do 7.1 in a room that size, personally. I'd rather have an optimal 5.1 setup than a compromised 7.1. But that's just one guy's opinion.May 1, 2011 at 3:31 pm #2057
Thanks for the pics. It looks great!May 2, 2011 at 8:43 am #1996
Wow, looks like a killer sounding setup, thanks for sharing.May 2, 2011 at 11:28 am #2136
Yeah I agree with PJ, 7.1 probably isn't going to really be worth it with your sitting up against the back wall like that, but some Verus Grand Dipole/Bipoles placed on the back wall at least one foot (two feet if you can) from the side walls should be a great choice.
Thanks for posting the pics!May 3, 2011 at 12:38 pm #1966
Thanks for your input Jason–and PJ (although I think you mean 7.1–I hope–lol). I had talked to you about this awhile back but wanted to ask again now that you have pictures of my room. I think I will go with my original plan and replace the Def Techs on the rear wall with your dipole/bipole surrounds when you have them available. Should be no problem getting them a couple feet away from the side wall. Thanks for your comments.May 3, 2011 at 4:25 pm #2142
