Hey all. So I haven't been around since I've been scouring craigslist for a new stand and just got it and put in my last piece of equiptment for the time being. I figured I'd post some pictures for all the people browsing who may have older equipment and be interested in Aperion!

 Here's what I started with...no laughing please: :(

 

With a view key pickups thanks to Aperion, onkyo and pioneer.....

For people worried about mixing wood stains...The old pioneer's have walnut wood and here they are (higher resolution) next to a cherry speaker and a cherry table....

  

Anyway I think if I get any more stuff I may not be allowed home although I'm dying to hear the 6T's! The small cable running toward the camera is a 3.5mm headphone cable to connect my laptop to the receiver via a 3.5mm to RCA cable. I highly recommend!

Great setup but wow, those old speakers, they look so ... old.  What are they by the way?

They sure are old. I picked them up at a goodwill years ago. They are Pioneer CS-A50's from 1972. They have power but are not nearly as clean sounding as the aperions. Besides the aperions look worlds better. I'm currently using them as a small table in the bedroom. Oh well. Live and learn.

The old pioneer seems like it has more power even though it's at 120 vintage wpc (plus it has a toroidal transformer) and makes the 5T's really sing compared to the onkyo (130wpc) for 2 channel music. I use the pionner exclusively for music and the onkyo for movies. I figured it will increase the life of both!

 More evidence that more watts doesn't always = better performance...It's all about what's making those watts (capacitors, powersupplies, etc..)

I have a freind who has a pretty old 75 wpc HK receiver and has a pretty old 50wpc rotel amp and Adcom processor combo.  He says the 50WPC Receiver and processor combo sounds much cleaner, fuller and more powerful than the 75wpc HK receiver.

I don't think anyone would argue that 10 wpc would make much of a difference, but of course a two channel integrated amp is going to give you better sound than a modern home theater receiver that has tons of circuitry dedicated to video processing and surround decoding taking up space inside the box. 

Plus remember that not all watts are equal, wattage is a product of current and voltage and it's the amps that deliver the most current per watt that will give you the cleanest sound.

So I just had my 6T's delivered and finished unpacking them. The 5T's went back to Aperion this morning which was sad but the 6T's are a whole other kind of animal. First off the 6T boxes are 1/3 larger or so than the 5T boxes but the speakers are practically twice the size in weight and depth. While they are not double boxed they come with serious transport protection as usual for Aperion. I've only listened to two CD's so far so I can't say that I've been listening too long but I immediately noticed a far more pronounced lower register with the 6T's. I am listening to them without the 8D for now and there is a real difference in the lower frequencies. While I can't A/B with the 5T's I think the 6T's have a much more powerful sound field in that it is more enveloping or "bubbly" as Dan would describe. More to follow once I listen to them for awhile. In any case I have to thank Jason Hicks for all his help and for selecting the 6T's. The Aperion staff is truly the finest. Now to upgrade the 5C before my 1 yr on them is up. . .
