Re-using Aperion speakers with new Marantz AV 7005

I recently moved from the US to Shanghai China and have thus changed home theaters. I originally bought practically all the catalog of Aperion speakers from satelite, bookshelf and towers, so enamored was I with their sound.  Now I am looking to buy the Marantz AV 7005 and redeploy some speakers for height/width speakers.

Specifically: I used to have a RXV4600 yamaha receiver driving 533 PT towers, 533 - VAC center, and four 534-SS surrounds, with an old yamaha YST-SW305 subwoofer and some 632 bookshelf speakers as B speakers. I also had an old HTR 5590 yamaha receiver driving a 5.1 setup with the 422 satellite speakers and and S8 subwoofer. Now I would like to use the best of these in a PLIIz setup with my 106" projection screen. All of this will fill a dedicated 20" x 24" x 9" basement room with concrete walls :)

I have read height and width speakers have a greater emotional impact than rears, an dI though maybe I could use some of the di/bipoles for height or width. Any suggestions on how I could best combine these?

Hello James and welcome back to the forum!

Yes I think the diffuse sound that you get from the 534-SS would be great for use as height channels, then you can still use the other pair as side surrounds.

I haven't heard much about width channels so I can't really comment on them, but it seems that most folks go for the height channels when utilizing the PLIIz feature.

    I hope that helps!
