Re: Could the Emotiva XPA-5 overload my Aperions?

I think that nbuchen has given excellent advice!!!! However, I think the order of purchase (sub/surround) is a coin flip. Do you want the "wizz, bangs" of surround, or the deep thunder a sub can give you.

With that said, if it were me, I would get the sub, then the surrounds. I don't think there is a right or wrong answer to this. It just depends what is more important to you. Of course, funds can be an issue there as well. If you have any old speakers laying around, you could even use those for surrounds, until you can get new ones.

Good luck and keep us informed on how it goes!

thanks...sounds like good advice to me...a couple more things......

4B's, 4BP's or 5DB's for surrounds? do you know or think the 5DB's are worth $345 each or will the 4B's or 4BP's be more than sufficient?

would the 8D be a sufficient increase in low end volume since I have the 6t's or do I really need to invest in a 10D to see a sigificant base upgrade?

or perhaps an opinion/comparison on getting a couple of 4T's for surrounds with respect to the above surrounds Aperion currently offers. I would most likely be setting my surrounds towards the rear of the end tables, unless of course I decided on the 4t's....I kind of like the two directional set up of the 5DBs since they would be directly behind the end table lamps...any thoughts?

Re: Could the Emotiva XPA-5 overload my Aperions?

Well, I just pulled the trigger on the Bravus 12D the other day. It's scheduled for arrival by mid next week. I'm really excited but also feel a little guilty about shelling out $1,00 for a big, black, shiny box. My wife didn't help me feel any better either. This box better sound good! Having previously purchased the 6T's I was going to go with an 8D, since the T's can get fairly low. But after thinking about it, all the 8D would have given me is more of the same(not that the same is bad). So next I thought, definitley the 10D...but I thought some more about it and really didn't want to wonder "what if?" as I would have done if I didn't get the 6T's.  So here I sit with the 12D on the way. This will be my first sub, and hopefully my last! Is there anybody out there with the 12D that can give me a brief review?  Will I have any regrets or will it just knock my socks off!! I thought about getting an ultra 12 for a sale price of $399, but when I thought about it, I would need two to match the 12d which would run me $800, so I went for the nice finish to match the others for another $300. One last question that's been on my mind.  If two drivers in the same cabinet sounds that good, why do more companies not do it? thanks for the input.

Re: Could the Emotiva XPA-5 overload my Aperions?

Here is something I wrote to someone else a while back on the 12D:

I am totally in love with the 12D. We have what you would consider a large room. I use it with 4 5B and a 5C, with an Onkyo 805. Setup was pretty simple, however I have yet to use the sound meter. I did it all by ear, and I am very happy with the outcome. One of these days I will get around to seeing how close I am with the meter.

I use this at about 90% movies and TV to 10% music. However, some of those movies are concert DVDs. I have no basis of comparison, as I took the 12D without doing a side by side to another sub. I was considering a AV123 15" sub, but the waiting list was 3 months at the time.

As far as "feel".....oh ya man, you can feel it. When auditioning some other systems before I decided on giving Aperion a try, my wife was liking something called but shakers, or something like that. After watching our first movie together, and feeling the sound....she said "who needs those but shaker things!" I live in California, so most of our loose items are held down with earthquake putty. Thank goodness, because I certainly would have shaken some stuff off my shelves without it. One of the first movies I sent through these speakers was Terminator 2. I was IN that movie, totally immersed by all the sound effects. Then one night, when wifey was out...I watched Batman Begins...at pretty much max volume. I thought to myself, "this is better than a theater". And it is!! Concert DVDs are an incredible experience. You really feel that you are at the show. I had a friend over, and we were watching a Yes DVD pretty much maxed. Clean and clear is what I would describe it. My friend said he had no idea how loud it was until he tried to talk to me while it was on. And that....is the desired effect. Good and clean should never feel as loud as it really is. Maybe that is kinda dangerous now that I think about it.

Congrats, mgvsev!  I'm sure the 12D will please both you and your wife.  Let us know how it sounds once you have it set up and dialed in.
