    RE: favorite beer!??

Great topic!  Too bad my 8 months deployed over here in the Middle East has prevented me from enjoying the fine life with good beer. Hopefully, only 4 more months and I get to try some of the suggestions on this thread.

In New England (my home is in Vermont) there are a lot of great Brew-pubs.  My favorite beers usually come fresh from the pubs.  In fact, if I travel to a new city and I want some food, the first thing I do is try to find a brew-pub.  If the town has one, I'm there!

If I must choose a bottled beer, I always go for a micro-brew. Before I left, the one I was trending towards was Harpoon's Munich Dark. Harpoon has a brewery about 10 minutes from my house which makes it convenient to pick an occasional growler to go from their tap.

Cheers! Or since this is a Bavarian-style Dunkel, "PROST!"

    Kevin

BTW - If you are ever in Las Vegas, you should go over to the Las Vegas Hofbräuhaus.  They actually are affiliated with the "original" Hofbräuhaus in Munich and ship their kegs over from there.  You are basically drinking the same beer you would if you were sitting in Munich.  It is pricy but the food is great and the beer even better.  Especially the Dark Beer (Hofbräu Dunkel). Check out their link http://www.hofbrauhauslasvegas.com/

And what about favorites for down on the river? Remember, it's gotta be in cans so no one gets cut.

    RE: favorite beer!??

I'm from Kentucky (although living in Ohio right now), but as far as I'm concerned the only alcoholic beverage any time of year is Bourbon...

    My favorites:

    1.  Eligah Craig

    2.  Maker's Mark

Those are the staples, especially Maker's, but when I'm feeling rich I go for the small batch stuff:

    1.  Bookers

    2.  Bakers

    3.  Knob Creek

    RE: favorite beer!??

Ok, here's a topic I can get into.

To quote Eric Idle of Monty Python, "What do American beers and making love in a canoe have in common? They're both f****ing close to water."

Allthough I agree with his statement for the most part, there are some fine Microbrews.

Here are some of my favorites.

    Guinness extra stout

    Harp

    Newcastle brown

    Grolsch

    Slickrock lager(a local brew)

    Poligamy Porter...you can't stop at one.(also a local brew)

    RE: favorite beer!??

Hi Steve, welcome to the the thread..i started it to see whats going down across the country. All the brews you list are great. Tonight im enjoying a Troegs Oatmeal Stout . They are located in Harrisburg Pa. Also make a killer nutbrown.I think Bill Koch really got the micro movement rolling when San Adams was opened. Although they are far from a micro now , they continue to put out different beers...Have you tried their nut brown or better yet the chocolate bock? Where are you located?..Anyway. nice to meet a fellow beer drinker.  Oh , great speakers huh?..CHEERS!..Rich G

    RE: favorite beer!??

Hey Rich, I havn't tried nearly as many microbrews as I would like. There's a limited supply of good beers here. I am a born and bred beer lover stuck in Utah. I appreciate the suggestions and will see if I can locate them. Sorry it took me so long to get back to you, I will chat at you again soon. Until then, happy drinking and happy listening.

    RE: favorite beer!??

Hey!  It's summer again.  I figured this thread would have some renewed vigor!

I just joined the forum and i just moved to ne alabama from the good old great lakes area (wi, in, oh) and i have been jonesen ( is that a word?) for some beer.

Well, here you can still find dry cities and counties however the family and i took a day trip to Chattanooga to see the aquarium and across the street was a brew pub.  I have been looking for an IPA and it happened to be one of there regular 6.  My it was good!

Just wanted to share (and post some more).

    Jeff
