6/8 Ohm setting for Aperion Speakers

I am trying to setup the Yamaha RX-V1500 with Aperion speakers and the Yamaha manual mentions that it is necessary to set the minimum speaker impedence 8 or 6 ohms. Anyone know what is the importance of this setting and what should this be set to for Aperion speakers (522D-LRs or 522D-PTs). Thanks -Vivek.

V Rai, if I remember correctly, the ohm settings/switch on Yamaha receivers are placed there simply to satisfy UL requirements/for liability reasons, i.e. that switch reduces overall power output but prevents overload/overheating.

It is recommended that you keep the settings to 8ohm to regardless of your speakers impedance in order to get the best performance, just make sure the receiver is well ventilated.
