    Onkyo DV-CP802 SACD Setup

    Anyones help would be appreciated,

I currently have an Onkyo DV-CP802 DVD player that is connected to an Onkyo TX-SR703 receiver.  One of the reasons I purchased the DVD player was to play SACD discs.

I bought the equipment over a year ago and I must getting around to playing a SACD disc.  I tried to play one over the weekend and no sound is coming out of anything.  I am connecting the DVD player to the receiver through an optical cable.  I was told that if I was using an optical cable then everything should be fine.

I went throught the manuals for both the DVD player and the receiver to make sure I had everything configured correctly but still no sound.  DVD's and CD's play without any problem.

One are of concern is that when I display the DVD player status on my TV when I play the SACD disc I can see that the sound is being run out of 0 channels.  I would think that this should say 5.1 or something like that.

Does anyone have any advice on how to get the SACD to work with this equipment?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you,

    Randy

    RE: Onkyo DV-CP802 SACD Setup

SACDs will not play through the digital output due to the content protection mechanism.  To hear SACDs you need either a HDMI1.2 (or higher), 1394, or analog connection.  In your case (w/o looking up the specs on the Onkyo equipment), my guess is you need to connect using the analog 5.1 outputs.

    Ken,

Thank you for the information.  Magnolia Hi-Fi does not know what they are talking about.

Can you recommend some 5.1 outputs that I can use to connect this?

Also another BIG question:  Can I have both a digital optical connection from the DVD player to the receiver as well as the 5.1 anolog audio connectors?  So that DVD's and CD's go through the digital optical and the SACD goes through the anlog connectors?  And if I can have both do you know how I would set this up with my reciever?

    Thank you,

    Randy

    RE: Onkyo DV-CP802 SACD Setup

The 5.1 outputs should be a set of 6 RCA jacks (FR, FL, center, sub, SR, SL) on the back of your DVD player.  You should have a corresponding set of inputs on the receiver.

I am not familiar with Onkyo equipment so I cannot help you with the particulars (I suggest starting by reading the manuals of both the DVD player and your receiver), but you will probably need to configure both properly.  Most equipment does allow multiple connections for audio.  You can also try the folks at Aperion who might have some knowledge on Onkyo.

Randall: Did you configure the Onkyo to accept optical signal? I have a 703 Onkyo and ALL digital inputs as well as component inputs have to be configured in the receiver otherwise NO sound will come out. I am not discounting Ken's comments. I am adding my own thoughts. Gorji
