My Aperion 5.0 system and advise on 422-LR vs 532-LR...

    Hello,

     This is my 5.0 system: 533-T x 2, 533-VAC, and 422-LR x 2. Yamaha HTR-5960 receiver.

I would like advise on surround speakers. I currently have the 422's but wonder if the 532's would be a better fit as far as tonality. I live in an apartment thus the reason I'm missing the 0.1 out of the 5.1. I'm trying to keep my neighbor faction high while enjoying great surround sound watching movies/tv.

Another question about surrounds...I have the frequency crossover on my receiver set at 80hz. If I get the 532's which has a frequency response of 80hz - 20khz am I gonna hear the 20hz difference from the 422's which are 100hz - 20khz? Is it worth $160 more?  I don't think the 534-SS speakers would be good since I'm unable to mount them high and against a wall. Am I correct?

    Thanks for any advise given.

533-T's for main LR, 422's for surrounds

Re: My Aperion 5.0 system and advise on 422-LR vs 532-LR...

The good news is that it is easy to add a sub later when the budget and neighbors allow.  With respect to the surrounds, I have always heard that dipole/bipoles perform best when placed near or on walls.  That isn't to say they wouldn't sound good, just not optimal.  The 532-LR is a great little speaker that would do a fine job as a surround.  Is it worth the upgrade?  That is a tough call that only you can make.  My own opinion is that it would be a better match for your 533 Ts and VAC.  Will you notice the 20Hz difference, maybe occasionally on movies but I would think more often on music.
