Re: New 5 series Line thread ***5C question***
I just ordered the new 5C center speaker, I'm very anxious for mid-April. It is supposed to have good bass (we'll see about that...) Wondering if I should set the center "size" setting to "small" or "large"?? (My L/R fronts have woven 6.5" woofers, set to "small".) I also just ordered the S8 subwoofer, so that'll be the sub in the system.

Congrats! Set it to small. What kind of L/R fronts are you running?

Re: New 5 series Line thread ***5C question***
Small it shall be - thanks for the recommendation. My fronts are custom-built with audiophile-grade components. The woofers are 6.5" woven something-or-other and the tweeters are 1" silk dome. (The cabinet is acoustic suspension.) The crossover was also built with premium parts, and the internal wiring is with silver-plated OFC encased in Teflon. These speakers sound spectacular, I'm very happy with them. I'm hoping the 5C with its woven drivers and silk tweeter will match up well with my fronts, but I know that's kind of a crap-shoot.

Re: New 5 series Line thread ***5C question***
I always say let the Subwoofer handle the stuff that the other speakers aren't supposed to. Better for your speakers, better for your amp and better music for your ears! Well you know, if it doesn't match up well you have your 30 days. Or you can always get some 5B's Worse case scenario, you get to see the execptional build quatliy, experience first class customer service, get funny emails, get to hear a fabulous product and most importantly you get to see the blue Velvet Bags! NOTE: Give the speaker about 30-40 hours to break in. Best of Luck! Dan

Re: want more comparisons between 5B's and 532's. Thoughts, comments?
Hey Dan, Are you crossing over the 5Bs at 75 Hz? Since they do go 5 Hz deeper than the 532s that will help the bass open a little bit for you. The 5Bs here definitely sound better every time I listen to them, but I honestly have no idea how many hours they have logged, and I thought they trumped the 532s right out of the box. If you had access to another receiver it might be interesting to compare how the speakers perform when hooked up to it, but 90 watts should be plenty of power. At the end of the day if you prefer the sound of the 532s that's fine with us, we're just glad you have chosen to use our speakers regardless of whether they are our new product or the older ones. There are so many factors that go into what makes a pair of speakers right for your needs in your particular situation so it's no surprise that our customers will have varying experiences with our products. Thanks for all of your contributions to the forum Dan, they are much appreciated!

Re: want more comparisons between 5B's and 532's. Thoughts, comments?
Thanks Jason, Just an FYI. I called last night and got my RMA for the 532's and 533VAC. Dropped them off at Fed-Ex this morning. Made sure I played one last song on them before I boxed em up nicely. Thanks so much for giving us the 30 day in home trial with free shipping. I kept the 5B's/5C and ordered the 4B's last night. The 5B's opened up more last night and could definately tell a difference when watching American Idol last night. That new tweeter is soo nice, I can tell you guys definately spent some time on them. When i cranked up the system to listen to David Cook's version of Billy Jean last night I couldn't believe how clear those things were with the volume up. The vocals extended further and created a much more dynamic soundstage. I hooked up the 532's and found the vocals to be a bit more harsh and the dialouge not as clear. Right now I would say I am getting about a 20-25% pefromance increase with the new 5B's across the board. They just sound more clear and accurate especially when the volume knob is cranked up, they are refined driving machines. It took about 3 weeks of normal usage for the 532's to open up, and boy did they ever, so I will give the same amount of time with the 5B's and will keep everyone posted with my findings. I was actually thinking of just upgrading to the 632's but I have fallen in love with the smoothness, openess and clearness of the new 5B's Plus, this leaves my options open to upgrade to the new 6B's within a year

Nice, glad to hear that you stuck with the 5Bs, I figured it was only a matter of time before they won you over. David Cook did Billie Jean last night? I'll have to check that out, the Lionel Richie cover he did was off the hook!

Re: want more comparisons between 5B's and 532's. Thoughts, comments?
You all probably think I'm gay, but yes I do watch American Idol with the wife. I would like to thank Aperion for making it very, very enjoyable....The Aperions trump my JBL studio series in the basement and those things have 12"woofers built into em. And yes, that Billy Jean song by David Cook was one of the best performance's I've ever seen on Idol and I've been watching for many years I hope you DVR'd it in HD. The Australian guy had a very good performance to.

Re: want more comparisons between 5B's and 532's. Thoughts, comments?
Uh yeah, I only watch it because my wife makes me too . . . Seriously though, of all the reality crap that she watches its by the far the most enjoyable for me and I did watch the first season before I was married. Anything that involvies music is up my alley, and they have had some pretty talented folks on there over the years. This year seems especially strong though, I just youtubed the Billie Jean and it was pretty gutsy for him to do the Chris Cornell version and he pulled it off well, I'm definitely rooting for that guy.

Interesting, two men discussing Americal Idol on an audio forum. When you think you've seen it all ... I will say you have a pair if you're willing to admit watching that crap. Looks like you both need more time in the man cave

Re: want more comparisons between 5B's and 532's. Thoughts, comments?
My wife made me take the HD DVR from my 50" Tosh RPTV in the basement (man cave) and hook it up in the family room where the new plasma and Aperions reside. I'm trying to convince her I need a HD cable box in the man cave now, however she still gets the Aperions with the plasma and I'll be stuck with the JBL's in the man cave. However, sometimes there is nothing like watching a film like movie with the old widescreen RPTV. Damn! I can already feel my body tingling with that upgradeitus bug...My arms are starting to shake, my credit cards jumping up and down (like the aperion speakers do when you mouse over them in the system builder) and my minds saying "Dan, you want a nice set of 5T's in the basement, don't you, don't you) and I'm saying, "yes I do, yes I do"....Add that to the list of upgrades along with a new receiver

Re: New 5 series Line thread
Alrighty, it's been a little over a week with the new 5Bs and I've had them on for at least half the day almost every day so I'll say that's enough break in time for me to write a bit more. Unfortunately, unlike the other Dan, I had to return my 532s at the same time I received the 5Bs so there was no chance to go back and forth. For a bit of background info. I'm more of an "average Joe" than an audiophile although I guess it depends on your definition. My interests are about 50/50 with music vs. movies and TV (no gaming). Also this has been my first time with a non HTiB system, although my best HTiB system was pretty good (Denon AVR-687 receiver w/ Boston Acoustics 5.1 speakers). I'm now running on an Onkyo 705 with two 5Bs and a 10D Bravus sub (just 2.1 until I save up for a 5C and two 5Ts). For setup I use Audessey with some tweaking once it's done. Since switching out the 532s for the 5Bs I've definitely noticed a much more realistic soundstage while listening to pretty much all of my music and a significant difference with DVDs and my AppleTV rentals. The phantom center channel effect is more noticeable, especially with a lot of dialog. As the other Dan mentioned the new tweeters are quite clear and aren't as harsh as the old, especially at high volumes. I didn't notice the drop in mids and bass that he mentioned but I'm also running them with the new 10D and haven't tested the 5Bs on their own. I was a bit iffy about replacing my 532s since they had sounded great and I also had gotten the 15% discount since they were A stock but I'm now glad I did. To my untrained ears it's made a nice difference in sound and I like the looks of the new line. The slight curves, size, and logo on the bottom (the logo is now set into the wood with raised bars instead of just a "poofy" sticker) make the designer in me much happier as well. I'm going to post a bit about what I think of the 10D vs. S10 in the Bravus thread in a little bit for anyone that's interested.

Re: New 5 series Line thread
Dude! Out of 5B's in Piano Black and 5T's..The new 6 & 4 series doesn't ship until second week of April. I feel bad for all those people that want their Aperions ASAP. They are starting to notice on AVS to. Either Aperion didn't make enough for initial launch or they have people lined up around the building wanting to buy.
