    Onkyo SR-702 Questions

I just set up my new system with Aperion speakers (5.1 with VAC and 10" sub), an Onkyo SR-702 receiver, a Pioneer DV578AS (plays DVD-Audio and SACD), and a Toshiba 52'' DLP rear projection. I'm new to the technology, so I've run into a few questions. (1) For music, what setting on the receiver allows for sound from the front stereo channels and the sub (2.1?)? (2) For DVD-Audio and SACD, I connected the DVD player to the receiver with the optical wire. When I tried to play a SACD, I did not get any sound. Is there an audio setting I need to be using? (3) I connected the DVD video using component video cables. When I play a DVD that says it is widescreen, I still have black bars at the top and bottom. They are smaller then when a widescreen is formatted onto a 4:3, but I was not expecting them. Is there something in the upconversion from the receiver to the TV that I need to be aware of? Thanks in advance Brandon

    RE: Onkyo SR-702 Questions

I'm not familiar with the SR-702. But, You have to use 6 (5.1)seperate component cables for SACD and DVD-A to work. The SACD multichannel will not run through the optical digital connection.

As far as the bars go, it's normal.   Try going to www.hometheaterforum.com or www.avsforum.com and you'll find plenty of information on the subjects.
