Help with 6 or 8 ohms setting

I have a Pioneer VSX-91TXH receiver and my front speakers are the 633 towers which are rated @ 6 ohms. My center channel is the 533 which is rated @ 8 ohms. I,m still undecided for my surrond sounds. Clearly the 534 dipole/bipole is rated @ 12 ohms so that is out of the question. I'm aware of the other choices for surrond sound which are rated @ 8 ohms....How do I set up my receiver? . My primary listening is music and movies are secondary, but I want to take advantage of a 5.1 setting.. If you need any other information please advise as I'm just a rookie in the audio/video world..Thank you for your time..

Re: Help with 6 or 8 ohms setting

Thanks for your question. This is one of the most common areas of confusion about speaker specifications. In your case, the 633-T's are rated at 6 ohms so set your receiver at 6 if you have that setting. Using a 6 ohm setting with a 12 ohm speaker will not damage or have any harmful effects on the speaker. You will need to be sure to calibrate the volume levels on all your speakers to compensate for sensitivity and placement.

The impedance of a speaker is measured in ohms and it reflects the amount of resistance the speaker shows your electronics. A lower ohm loads = more resistance which can make your amp work harder. The result is more heat and in some cases clipping at higher volume levels. Most modern mid-grade receivers can easily handle impedance down to 4 ohms so this really is a non-issue with Aperion speakers as long as you are using a decent receiver with a high current power supply.

If you have further questions, be sure to contact one of our gurus and they will help you out.
