Hey all. Just wondering if anyone has a pair of the 6B's hooked up to a 2x250 watt amp and how it compares to receiver only. I have a pair of the 6B's for my L and R and have them hooked to Onkyo 875, sounds great, but with the sensitivity being so low, I know that with more power being fed these puppies would really make them purr. I was going to try and upgrade to the 6T's in a bit, but am gonna wait to see if Aperion comes out with a new powered tower. I was told this could be a while out from my chatting. I am currently looking at the Emotiva XPA-2, and a used Rotel RB-1080. Any other suggestions or input out there. I know there are a lot of choices out there, trying to make the best choice, which is impossible, always loosing sleep over this kind of silly stuff. I think I have a sickness.

There is good reason to loose sleep over it :)

Currently i have a set of 5B's and am pushing 120 watts of Denon power to them. Somethings telling me they want more...I think upgrading to a tower will make a big difference.

The more and more I listen to the 5B's the more I realize that they are definately less lively than the old 532's.  The 532's seemed to produce more effortless flowing music.

I just got a pair of 6Bs last week and am using them as two channel front speakers with a Velodyne SPL 1500-R sub for essentially audio only. I am using  B&K 200W monoblocks with these and I can listen to them as loud as I need to and they still could go to "11" and remain clean and uncongested. These 6Bs are not toys! From what I have read in the other posts and forums, the low sensitivity of these beauties allows you to use alot of of power. I was attracted to the 6B oddly enough because of the low sensitivity. My previous speakers were very highly efficient towers and I never felt my amps were getting a real workout. Since my amps are discontinued I can't recommend them but I would suggest getting as many good clean honest RMS watts per channel as you can afford. These speakers are so good that they will purr and growl appreciatively if you feed them properly! Mine are still breaking in - in my room and to my ears they were a little rough right out of the box. After about a week they are sounding very sweet - they will go alot lower than you can imagine and the highs are very clean. I am not familiar with your Onkyo receiver and am not sure how many true RMS watts they produce. Maybe your receiver has plenty of power already. If you have access to a more powerful amp (borrow from a friend or a loan from local audio dealer) try it out and see if you can hear a difference. I guess my point is that you will not be wasting money on more power if you can hear a difference because these speakers are worth it.  Good luck and enjoy those 6Bs. And yes, you do have a sickness. You can always recommend discontinued amps.  That's what eBay is for :)

Also looking at Outlaw audio's monoblocks. The class M2200 specifically (rated at 200watt RMS). They are really thin too, which is nice for my wife. The living room is slowly being takin over by all my gadgets. She comments that she lives in a bachelors pad. There may be some truth to that, but like I said, I might have a sickness soo... Anyway, I've heard monoblocks have some benefit in that they each have seperate power supplies, and less for one amp to do. Eg. one amp does one speaker instead of two. I've never heard speakers hooked up to seperate components. Went to my local RC Willey dealer, and I knew more than the guy trying to help me. Not a big help. So, I am kinda going by word of mouth and reviews, which is how I ended up with my Aperion setup that I am pleased with. Keep the opinions coming. I like to hear what everyone thinks, very helpful and fun.

If you want cheap power look an Adcom GFA 555 on ebay.  For $350-$400 bucks you can get a 20 year old amp that will mop the floor with the 6B's

Just thought that I would update my post a little. I was wondering how the 6B's would sound hooked up to a two channel amp with 200 watt minimum. Well, as I was loosing sleep over it last night I remembered that my 875 has the capability to bridge the back surround channels to the front left and right, which would give my 6B's the power I need. I did so, and the sound was vastly improved. Turned off my sub, but did a double check to make sure I didn't just turn it down. The low end really came out, along with the lower end midrange. Sounded so so good. I felt like I was listening to them for the first time. Unfortunately, while in BTL(bridged mode), the receiver only supports the two channels and a sub. So great for two channel listening, but not for anything else. So now the push for a good amp to power these puppies is taking me over. I am still saving for one and am now gonna try to save faster as a lot of us are in here for our hi-fi equipment.
