    5DB mounting question

I already posted this as a reply to a previous question 5DB Mounts answered by Jason Hicks and thought I should have posted the question here.

I just purchased a complete 7.1 system (haven't got the speakers yet) and I am trying to plan speaker placement and mounting. Is the picture of the speaker upside down? If not, it looks as though the wall plate would be visible above the speaker.

Will the supplied mounts hold a speaker that is angled downward? I have to place my side surrounds about 5 feet above the listeners ears and was planning to angle them down a bit by mounting wedges to the walls and then mounting the wall plates to the wedges. Do you think this will work with the 5DB speakers and supplied mounts or is angling them down a waste of time? I've read in a few places that dipole/bipole speakers mounted too high should be angled down towards the listening area. Any thoughts on this would be appreatiated.

    Thanks,

    Jim

    Hey Jim,

No the wall plate is only a little over three inches tall so you won't see it. (You guys must think that's an awfully big hand in the picture!  Wink)

But don't take my word for it:

As for angling them, no you won't be able to do that using the mounting bracket that we provide.  However, the 5DB is designed to be mounted above the listeners ear since the speaker does work through reflections, but five feet above the ear is a bit higher than ideal.  Any chance you mount it about seven feet off the floor?  If you can get them at that height you will not need to angle them.
