I've got the H/K DVD 22 and the dvd player has been great. I was wondering if the H/K DVD 47 would be worth an upgrade seeing how it has an HDMI connection and it upscales 420p signals to 720p or 1080i. I've seen the DVD 47 priced around $225-$300 compared to the MSRP of $399. Anyone think it'll make a significant visual difference on a Sony 34XBR960? Or should I just hang in there and wait for the hi-def DVD players?

Well, I'm probably late in the game on this, but I recently came across a benchmark review on this player and ended up purchasing an OPPO OPDV971H (Up-Conversion DVD Player) - which is truly amazing! The player really shines on standard DVDs that have been remastered or mastered in HD - such as Star Wars IV or movies that have a ton of CGI. The quality is really close to HDNet broadcast content. I did have to replace the first unit because the video started to continuosly skip after a few hours of play and it seemed to run really hot. Oppo's replacement process was quick and easy and a got a new unit within a 3 days. And the new player is working great! I love H/K products and looked at other moderately priced up-converting players, but I simply couldn't pass up on this one. Anyway, here's their site if you're interested: www.oppodigital.com

I have the HK DVD 47 and I like it a lot. The SACD and DVD-A sound quality is very good. Full bass management for both formats too. This will surely be my last universal player (had 4 so far), and even my last DVD palyer (going HD-DVD).

Way to go on the Oppo purchase. You will be much happier with that than you would have the 47. Unfortunately, HK's DVD players are just not that great. You can get a lot better picture and benchmark results with the same $.
