Help with crossover settings on a H/K 247

    Hey guys,

    I have an H/K AVR 247 powering a set of 532 L/R's and a 532C.

What would you recomend for a crossover setting and size settings for speakers (large or small) and sub (LFE or L/R +LFE)?

Any help would be much appreciated, I seem to be having a problem getting my mains and center to mesh well with the sub in the upper bass region.

I orginally tried the auto-setup but that sounded terrible.

First thing to try is to set the speakers to small and crossover at 80Hz.

That is what I initially had it set on, but I was easily able to locate the bass at 80 mhz coming from the sub.  I think the crossover might be a little off on my receiver...

Were is your sub compared to your front speakers?  Most people say that localization happens at 100Hz and up.  Most AVRs also have a speaker distance setting, including one for the sub.  This needs to be set correctly as well or you may be getting localization ques because of timing issues.

I'll try tweaking the distance settings tonight and report back.  Thanks.

It could also be the location.  The sub is in a corner with the back up against a regular wall and the side up against a cement pillar (I live in a high rise loft).  Could that location possibly cause boomy upper bass?

Sub placement can be very difficult because it is easy to have a wall at a resonant distance.  I prefer to keep the sub in the same plane as the front mains but I realize this is not always an option.  One old trick is to put the sub where you sit and then walk around the room to see where it sounds the best.  That will be the place to put the sub.

lol, i swear my house resonates. I mean its fantastic in my living room. I have the 2 8d's in front of the tv. Everthings great. Whats funny is while i have nice clean bass. If i go 2 rooms down. Keep in mind it skips a room. The room shake like i was in a small all tile bathroom with a big ol sub. I get the mudded sound and it shakes the furanture. Its wierd since the room to the right doesnt have that problem, and its closer. I dont really consider it a problem though, mearly a side effect.

Ps. If your still having trouble tuning your sub, you can allways use the ancient jedi aperion technique. Get a baseball bat (preferably wood) and just keep hitting it until it sounds right. You can confirm the results with your spl meter.

Or you can allways follow russ's advise. It sound alot more plausible.

Unfortunately it's tucked away next to the couch in pretty much the only workable location.  I could go about 6 inches in either direction, but that's about it.
