    533-t crossover on denon txnr906

I am writing to find out if it is safe to go with the auto-setup settings my receiver is coming up with.

The receiver is setting the 533-t's to FULL BAND.  Do I need to change that to 65hz to avoid damaging the speakers?

My other speakers are calculated as such:

533-t:    FULL BAND              Aperions figures: 65hz

634-vac:   FULL BAND          Aperions figures: 60hz

    534-ss:      120HZ                  Aperions figures: 90hz  (bipole)   Can I switch theses to 90?

Also if it helps to know I have the S12 sub.

Also, I would rather play it safe than risk damage to my speakers.

Thanks for any help in advance!

    Hey Joseph,

You can crossover the 533-Ts and 634-VAC as full band without damaging them, but I probably wouldn't as you will probably hear the speaker's roll off as it goes from 65 Hz to 40 Hz for the towers and 60 Hz to 40 Hz with the center and I believe the -3 dB frequency response for the 533-T is 70 Hz and not 65 Hz.  The fact is that these speakers will produce tones at 40 Hz, they just do so at a very low dB and you don't really want to hear those freqs at low dBs since you have an S12 to take care of that.

Personally I would crossover the 533-Ts at 80 or 70 Hz, the 634-VAC at 80, 60 or 70 and the 534-SS at 80 Hz unless you plan on only using them in the bipole mode then I would do 90 Hz.  The S12 I would crossover at 80 as well.

But since you don't have to worry about damaging the speakers I would encourage you to play around with the settings and go with whatever sounds best to you.

    I hope that helps, thanks!

    Thanks Jason.

I used your suggested settings and it sounds really good.

I was just curious about one more thing. If I have my surround crossover set at 90hz and my subwoofer set to 80hz (with the dial on the back) am I missing the frequency for the surround speakers that falls between the subs 80hz and the surrounds 90hz?

I'm looking at the bipole freq response graph and it actually looks like the speaker will still produce 80 Hz at -6 dB, which isn't too much of a dB drop so I would probably go ahead and set the crossover to 80 Hz.  Honestly the 534-SS doesn't have a ton of bass anyway so you may not hear much of a difference between the 80 and 90 Hz crossovers but you might as well give it a shot

Of course if the speaker is to your side I would recommend putting it into the dipole mode since that will give you the best performance in terms of surround effects.
