    Sony vs. Samsung

So I am shopping for a new TV, and see that these two have very similar specs.  Help me choose, and many thanks. Big Smile

    Sony KDL-52V5100

    Samsung LN52A650

Which one looks better to you?

    Re: Sony vs. Samsung

I personally am leaning towards the sony for two reasons.  I have had a Sony TV for as long as I can remember, and I know four other people who have the previous Bravia LCD's, and have liked how they looked.

Maybe I just answered my own question.

    Re: Sony vs. Samsung

TVs with similar specs will almost always ultimately fall into the opinion of the beholder.  Many will like specific brands for multiple reasons.  As you noted, you already have a couple that apply to you.

I have a Sony XBR that I really like, though admittedly, I didn't do a whole lot of research in advance.  I just bought a new Sony to replace an old Sony.  Luckily, I'm still happy with my choice, even after 18 months.

Sony and Samsung both make a great TV.  I doubt either would be a bad choice.

Well said PJ. I have seen the Samsung in person but not the Sony. Sammy is a great looking TV but it does have a shiny screen. It will make black pop out more but at the cost of reflections. Unless the lighting is controlled in your room then its no biggie.

Not sure I personally like the over all design/layout of the Sony. But the red on the Samsung isn't for everyone either. For such similar spec's I'd trust your eyes. Also consider the options and picture adjustments of each.

    Re: Sony vs. Samsung

I find the decision between the two to be personal preference. Sonys tends to cost slightly more in my opinion, but both brands are great. I've had one of each, I'm presently on my Samsung, and love(d) both. Personally, I like the Samsung cabinets, the pictures tend to look nearly identical between the two to me which is why I went with my preference of cabinet/lower price this time

    Re: Sony vs. Samsung

They have one of these currently at my nearest Best Buy location, and it is spectacular. I like it. It is super thin. Just wide enough in the back for inputs. I don't know if the price increase is justifiable, but if money wasn't an issue, I would buy one immediately. My friend just saw it the other day and is in love. His income is quite a bit higher than mine, and he is having a hard time not upgrading to the LED market.

    Re: Sony vs. Samsung

Thanks guys, I am going with the Sony.  The thin bezel and matte finish tops it for me.  My condo gets a lot of light which is why I am not going the plasma route, so a glossy finish is out as well.  Also not really digging the red light on the Samsung.

    Re: Sony vs. Samsung

I've seen these at BestBuy and I can say that when I saw them, they looked phenomenal.  While they look amazing, they are not without their imperfections.  But you would really only notice them if you are a hardcore videophile.  But the screen is extremely bright and the contrast ratio is amazing.  I would recommend this to people who want a great screen but aren't hardcore videophiles.

    Re: Sony vs. Samsung

Do you mean the Sony or Samsung?

I have actually decided to go with the 46 inch Bravia KDL46z4100.  Saw it in Best Buy last night, and am loving that thin bezel, and thought that the colors looked amazing.  Also felt that the angled viewing looked great as well.

While I love my movies, I am still a newb (had a CRT until this purchase hooked up to Sony HTIB), but with the research and peoples helpful opnions I believe I am making the right choice.  Thanks for all the input.

    Re: Sony vs. Samsung

Sorry, I did a reply to one of the posts but should have quoted.  I was referring to the new Samsung B6000, B7000, or B8000 series edge-lit LED TVs.  They will be in the top range of what you want to spend, but they are 1.2" thick from the side and the picture does look good.  Not perfect, but pretty good.
