    NO surround sound through TV

I have a Panasonic 52' plasma hooked up to a Pioneer 1019 av receiver w/ a 4t hybrid system.  GUI menus acces via fiber optic. Music and Movies via DVI from laptop into receiver with HDMI no problem. No Cable Box. I have tried HDMI IN via HDMI OUT to the receiver and gone throught the set up menus to no avail.  I have also tried coax cable from reciever to TV audio inputs. any suggestions?  I have followed the vauge set up menus in the manuals but no luck.

Are you getting no sound through ALL your speakers?  Or just the surround speakers?

Hello and welcome to the forum,

In addition to PJs question what type of source are you using with the TV?  Blu-Ray/DVD?  Just broadcast television?

Re: NO surround sound through TV

I believe the problem is with the 'input' settings or getting the receiver to recognize the TV playback thru the amp on the receiver as I have no issue with playback with DVD/CD or Movie surround.  (speakers sound great by the way very pleased right out of the box!) TV is broadcast cable TV no cable box.  My TV is a panasonic TC-P501S1. I have the) HDMI from the TV 'AV in' to the Pioneer VSX-1019AH-K HDMI out.  Panasonic 'requires' using analog or optical/coax audio for playback thru the receiver.  I am using analog. When I run the GUI the settings for input settings the HDMI is recognized by the receiver.  There may also be an issue with the TV settings and disabling their Vera Link HDAVI control with HDMI form a non vera link system?

Re: NO surround sound through TV

If it's broadcast TV then the signal is going into the TV first.  So you'll want to connect the TV out to the receiver in, and if you need to use analog or coax/optical then that's the only connection you'll be using for your TV watching.  Just make sure that you have selected the proper input on the receiver in order to get the sound from the TV.

That HDMI connection from the receiver's out to the TV's in will only be used when you are feeding a signal to the receiver first and then to the TV, such as when you have your laptop connected to the receiver.

Hopefully that will take care of the problem, but just let me know if it doesn't, thanks!
