If you're not buying games, the price of games is a non-factor. And, there's no "memory" to buy on a PS3.
Unless you're a major enthusiast, my opinion is that the PS3 is still the best bang-for-the-buck Blu-Ray player out there, even if you never play a game on it. Decodes codecs, older ones play SACD, auto-updates firmware, etc. Pretty foolproof.
If you're gonna get a stand-alone Blu-Ray, I know many recommend Panasonic's offerings, and many are waiting for the new Oppo product(s) to be released.
