    Canadian duty

    Hi,

I live in Ottawa, Canada. I was wondering about the duty. I thought that we wouldn't have to pay duty on speakers if they are made in the US?

Also have you ever tried shipping to Canada with USPS? I hear they don't charge duty because they have an agreement with Canada Post.

Not sure if anyone has answers to these questions but thanks in advance,

     Jason

    Re: Canadian duty

    Jason,

Our speakers are manufactured in China to our design and specifications.  But as such, duty is a bit more.  Duties and taxes to Ottawa are 14% which is both provincial and federal.

We usually ship via FedEx to Canada (and domestically) as we get better rates and their tracking is better than USPS.  Note, however, that our free shipping only covers shipping to the US Border.  We have to charge for shipping on the Canadian side.  But that covers all customs charges as well as the paperwork so that shipping charge will get the speakers to your door.  How much that shipping is depends on what you are ordering.

If you would like to get a quote from us on what the total cost (including shipping and duties and taxes) please give us a call or initiate a web chat with us and we'll be more than happy to help you.

    Re: Canadian duty

Actually the new taxes are now 13%:

Federal GST since Jan 1 2008....5%
    Ontario PST ....8%

You should really consider using USPS when shipping to Canada. Fedex and UPS charge and additional 4% or so in brokerage and disbursement. Your Canadian clients would really appreciate the money you end up saving them.

     thanks,

     Jason

Thanks Jason, but USPS rates compared to what we get with our high volume FedEx account are quite a bit more than 4% higher.  I recently shipped a 5T system to an APO via USPS and it cost almost $400!
