I respectfully disagree with you gents.
***I may include spoilers***
I haven't really understood all the criticism with the latest two Bond flicks. They decided to re-invent the character, as well as how the movies are made. In theory, you're seeing the origins of Bond (or, at least, a throwback to that), which is why everything is so awkward. He's vulnerable, unpolished, feels invincible, masochistic, etc. Hell, he even fell in love in Casino Royale, and it caused him to screw up. Quantum is simply an extension of that.
I don't get why people are so surprised about this. There was a LOT of set-up to the re-invention, and one had to assume that the Casino Royale style would continue. For Quantum, he spent the whole movie RUNNING from MI6, not being a part of it, so it makes it difficult to squeeze the usual Bond cliche's in.
I'm sure they'll reintroduce Q, but they only get one shot to do it correctly. And this new Bond version needs growing up for it to make sense. I think that Quantum did a good job of getting him to that point, at least a little bit, and if only at the end.
Biggest pros for me include the fact that the action has been fantastic, and that as someone who didn't grow up in the 60's, I feel like they've reinvented the character for people my age to enjoy the evolution of all over again.
Biggest cons for me are that I miss the resolution that came from previous Bond flicks. In previous movies, there was a bad guy, Bond beat him, and everyone was happy. For the same reason why I like it, I also dislike the fact that there's an on-going plot of evil that has yet to be revealed. It's been more "conspiracy" and less "monster-of-the-week."
Anyway...my $0.02.
