Re: Any metalheads here want to talk?
I actually got to see metal church about 4 years ago in clifton nj at a local bar with no more than 75 people in it, there's no surprise they just called it quits a few months ago. The actual show was great they had this new singer named ronie munroe who was not david wayne but certanly had his own, playing was tight and they did released some quality material. You are right about grip inc, not that they are bad they just don't quite cut it for me i own 2 of their album collecting dust only

Re: Any metalheads here want to talk?
Metal Church is pretty cool. And here's a little metal trivia for you (in a six degrees of Kevin Bacon kind of way): after Metallica's James Hetfield literally got burned by walking into a pyro flame during a concert and was unable to play for the remainder of the tour, Metal Church's John Marshall played guitar (Hetfield still sang). Before joining Metal Church, Marshall was a guitar tech for Metallica. I saw this version of the Metallica tour when I was living in San Diego at the time- Body Count opened (and played the controversial "Cop Killer" despite a letter from the SD mayor urging them not to), then came Metallica (w/ Marshall on rhythm guitar), and Guns n' Roses closed the show (and they surprisingly played the full set as Axl didn't throw a hissy fit).

I too saw part of that same tour! Faith No More opened for them, but we got there late and missed FNM. Great Concert.
Body Count was really controversial back then.

i never got to see Metal Church, but really enjoyed their first several releases. I somehow had a demo before their first record came out so i always had a soft spot for them. The last thing i bought by them was Hanging in the Balance- still a good release, but an all time bad CD cover to go with it. I am jealous you got to see them.

Re: Any metalheads here want to talk?
thats funny you are jealous because i nearly miss them, my girfriend at the time was a few months short of being 21 and the people at the club didn't want to let her in. somehow i managed to convince them . I know im going to be offtopic here but im listening to the tran-siberian orchestra"s last album "night castle" and is freaking sweet , songs like "toccata" really come alive through the aperions. For those who don't know tso has some members from savatage and they mix metal with classical music under a christmas theme, and they put a hell of a live show for metal and non metal fans alike . Saw them last year and kicked my butt for not doing it before, this year i was first in line to buy my tickets. Most of you probably know them they are pretty huge lately so i was wondering what you guys think of them, i can't help but to love this guys

Re: Any metalheads here want to talk?
Tran-Siberian comes to town about once a year. We own the Lost X-Mas Eve release that came out about 4 years ago. I will have to fire it up on the Aperions - Thanks for the idea.
Gotta Love Wizards in Winter! I like the band, but for some reason I can only listen to them for a while before I want to hear something different. ADD?
I use to follow Savatage long ago - Gutter Ballet was the last one i bought, but i think i have everything before that.

Re: Any metalheads here want to talk?
I have yet to listen to gutter ballet for some strange reason but "power of the night", "in the hall of the mountain king" are my favs from that era . As far as the zac stevens albums goes "edge of thorns" is a 10/10 in my book and "the wake of magellan" would be a cult classic if more people had actually listen to it.

Re: Any metalheads here want to talk?
"And if you still have an itch for thrash metal after that get yourself testament" Testament is playing with Slayer and Megadeath. (not Sepultura, but I still got A-LEX their 2009 new release and ordered Chaos AD) Testament. Where have I been for the last 25 years. I am listening to their 2008 release The Formation of Damnation. The lineup is Chuck Billy, Eric Peterson, Alex Skolnick, Greg Christian, and Paul Bostaph. Led me to order The Gathering, Low, and the DVD Live in London. Slayer. New 2009 album World Painted Blood. No loser between South of Heaven and Seasons in the Abyss. The dueling guitar solos rip Aperions. Thanks for the reviews and feedback. With so many discs, metal acts, (and so little money) selective purchasing is crucial.

Re: Any metalheads here want to talk?
OK, so I'm probably going to take some flack for posting this in the "metal" thread, but I got the Rush "Snakes & Arrows Live" Blu-ray for Christmas and this thing is sweet! I'm not even a huge Rush fan, but the sound is totally enveloping- like being at the show (it's encoded in DTS-HD 5.1). The bass is really full and compliments Alex's screeching guitar and Geddy's vocals well. The video is amazingly clear too- you can see fingerprints on Geddy's bass and individual beads of sweat on his arm. Much to the disappointment of my wife, I watched/listened far longer than I planned on and had it cranked nice and loud. Sounded great on the Aperions of course. -Nick

Re: Any metalheads here want to talk?
I have been thinking of getting that and steve vai, can't go wrong with rush specially on blue ray. I own nightwish "end of an era" and alice coopper "live at montreux" on blu ray and they both look amazing very addictive stuff makes me not wanna watch regular dvds anymore. Just a warning for anyone who might be thinking of picking up the halford blue ray "rock in rio" DON'T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! picture quality is bad, more like a regular dvd very dissapointing stuff its such a rip off .

Re: Any metalheads here want to talk?
thanks for the heads up on Snakes & Arrow. I will check that out. I was watching them on HDNet recently and the sound quality was no where near as good as i had hoped. the musicianship was outstanding, but the sound quality was not.

Live In Minneapolis: Where The Wild Things Are is amazing. Saw it on HDnet and he truly is incredible. Highly recommend. The Halford Dvd has great reviews on Amazon. (Not the Blu Ray) is the performance and sound quality good???

BACK SURGERY SCHEDULED FOR SLAYER'S TOM ARAYA,BAND'S TOUR PLANS POSTPONED THROUGH APRIL
Slayer Camp Working Hard to Reschedule Dates for Later This Year
Bummer. I have not seen these bands before, was really looking forward to Testament. Slayer. Megadeath. I hope the surgery goes well for Tom Araya. I will probably hold on to the tickets and wait for them to re-schedule. I now turn my focus to Throwdown. They are playing the next leg of the Five Finger Death Punch (5FDP) NA tour. Their new release 'Deathless' is nice and tight, enough so that I ordered the rest of their discography: Haymaker, Vendetta, and Venom and Tears. At times the band comes across as Pantera-

Re: Any metalheads here want to talk?
To tell you the truth i was so dissapointed with the picture quality that i must have see that halford dvd for about 5 minutes max before i shut it off and haven't bothered with it again, As long as you buy that regular dvd you should be fine, im pretty sure it was a great show i just have a bad taste in my mouth after spending $35 . $15 for the actual dvd and $20 for the blu box it came with. Im glad i didn't get my tickets for that carnage tour, there's plenty good stuff coming around my area like d.r.i., behemoth and even sebastian bach so i'll be fine

Re: Any metalheads here want to talk?
Hi folks, I'm in the market for new speakers and have a few questions. I posted over at AVS Forum without much luck so far. How do the Aperions handle distortion and/or multiple frequencies? Mostly referring to Heavy/Death/Black Metal music. I've heard people listening to (c)rap and r&b on cheaper than dirt speakers and it sounds ok (to them). I can't get past the headache myself. But when I play my music on said speakers, SQ is horrible. Don't get me wrong, I love classic rock and some alternative as well and like classical. But it always seems I need a better system than average for Metal to sound good. If they can make metal sound good, then I will be pleased with movies. I'm thinking a system based around the 6T towers for front. I'm also looking at gettting the SVS PB-13 Ultra sub, so bass should be covered.
I had a 1999 Honda Civic Hatchback, and put in JL Audio 6.5 components, 6x9's and a 12" sealed sub with Kenwood Excellon amps and it sounded amazing. Take the same CD and play it on a cars factory system and it's horrible. Bass was tight, especially the fast paced double bass kicks. I think the range that I'm talking about is mid-bass. Most cheap speakers lack that. Most r&b stuff is bass and treble eh?
My benchmark CD is basically any Opeth album. Both Watershed and The Grand Conjuration have absolutely the best dynamic range and musical ability that I have ever heard. Acoustic to Distortion, Folk to Death Metal and great synthesizer. The vocal prowess of Michael Akerfeldt going from clean to growl is hands down the best talent I have ever heard. I usually don't like like clean male vocals, but this guy is an exception.
With the pending purchace of a new home, I will finally have a living room big enough for a good 5.1 system. I will mostly be watching TV with the fam and maybe a BR once a week. Depending on how much the wife likes the sound, we may listen to more music. My music will only be played while the wife is not in the house, at nosebleed levels LOL!
The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout "Save us!"... and I'll whisper "no."
