    8D or 10D?

I'm trying to decide between the 8D or 10D for a future purchase.  The room that the sub will be in will be about 20ftx15ft.  Does the 10D deliver $300 more worth of bass?  It only goes 4hz lower than the 8D...

    Thanks!

For a room that size, I'd say that you'd benefit from the 10D, but you've also got the option to order one or both and send the one you choose back if you don't like it.

Agreed, the 10D will definitely play deeper and with a more visceral impact in that room. However, the output capabilities of either sub should be more than enough. And with the 30 day in home audition period, PJ's recommendation would be a great way to try them both out to compare.

    Thanks for your interest,

Ok, thanks for the input guys.  I think I'll try to swing the 10D.  For now, it's save save save!

    Re: 8D or 10D?

Just so that I have a fuller understanding, what would happen to the bass sound with an 8D in a 20ftx20ft room or larger?  Would there not be enough volume to fill the room?  Or is it an air displacement issue?

What are people's thoughts on a 10D in a 13ft x 13ft room?  Is that too much?  I only ask because I may be going from a smaller room (13x13) to a larger room (20ish x 20 ish) in a few years.

In a 20'X20' room there's likely to be dead spots in certain areas due to the 8D not providing enough output to evenly fill the room.

The nice thing about a sub is that it has its own volume control which allows you to prevent it from overwhelming your other speakers.  So even though it would likely be overkill in a small room like that, it won't sound unbalanced.

Thanks Jason.  What would you say is the max sized room for a 10D then?

I would say around 500 square feet.

on the same note, in a 15-20x15-20 room, would it be better to have one 10D or two 8Ds?

It's a trade off between those two configurations, you'll get deeper bass out of one ten but a more even bass distribution with less dead spots with two 8Ds.
