    6B vs 5B

I'd be using these for nearfield use (while at the computer).  I'm most concerned about sound quality.  Would the 6B be a step up in terms of overall sound quality vs the 5B?  Since I'm so close I'm not worried about the volume capabilities of the speakers.

They would be powered by a 110wpc Pioneer VSX D912.  My current speakers are Polk Monitor Series 2.

    Thanks.

    Re: 6B vs 5B

Hello and welcome to the forum!

Most folks will find the 6B to be too large for a desktop set up since they are 8.3" wide and 12.8" deep, but they will provide you with about 30 Hz more bass extension and fuller mids than the 5B, so if you have room for them I think the difference in sound quality would be apparent.

Hope that helps but please let me know if you have other questions!

Thanks Jason.  I forgot to mention that I have a Energy sub.  I suspect that will help with the lower frequencies.  Are the highs and mids of the 6B of a higher quality than the 5B?  Thanks again.

Indeed a sub will help out with the bass, while the increased bass extension would be the main benefit of the 6B for your application you will also get a bit of a bump in midrange fullness out of the 6Bs over the 5B.
