Coming to a theater near you... (well, me actually)
Well, a year into our new home, and we are finishing out the 3rd floor. The shots below will be the HT alcove. (maybe we should name is the aperion alcove?) The third floor will also house a Bar, a Carrom 7' Deep Dish Professional Air Hockey table, and a ps2/analog tv viewing station as well. All of these are 'eventuallys', but hopefully all by the year's end. The carpet will be installed on Monday, and the trim should have been painted by now, but a Memorial Day Paint Ball extravaganza has left my back in pain!, so I am falling behind my paint schedule. The Aperion System (Powered Towers, Vertical Array Center, and Intimus bookshelves) arrive 06.08. I can't wait! This will be my first experince with Aperion Audio gear. So far, it has been a pleasant trip!

RE: Coming to a theater near you... (well, me actually)
Hey Jim. I'm jealous. That is going to be a sweet suite....or yes, alcove. How will the system be arranged in that alcove? By the way, I'm a big fan of Xbox (I don't have one yet...). A customer of ours has one hooked up to their Aperion speaker set up and it's AWESOME. I couldn't believe how amazing the sound was...for a video game. I'm trying to convince everyone here at Aperion that we need to get one for our demo room here. After all, you have to see and hear everything the system is capable of, right? You'll have to tell me about PS2 and how it's better than Xbox... Cheers,

RE: Coming to a theater near you... (well, me actually)
And the reason I own a PS2 vs. X-box, is basically, my brother went through 2 X-box units in a month. Granted these were the first editions, and they seem to have things worked out now, but it steered me clear of them at the time. I have a friend who has both, and honestly, the 16:9 DD5.1 games on the X-box are pretty sweet! I actually don't even use my PS2 too often, mostly just when a bunch of friends are over, we'll fire it up. I would say you NEED one there in your demo room to FULLY comprehend all facets of what your systems can do.

Very nice set up Jim! I think you'll be just fine with just the towers in that alcove. You shouldn't need a stand alone sub unless you want to tear the walls off. But just in case, what are the dimensions of that alcove?

RE: Coming to a theater near you... (well, me actually)
The alcove dimensions are only 11' wide by 8' deep by 8' high. My only concern is that it is open to the entire 435 sf room. I don't need 'tear the walls off' bass either. I guess i will know soon enough. Well the 1st and 2nd trim coats are on, as well at the prime layer for the ceiling. It's going to be a long 3 day weekend, but the carpet comes on Monday, and it's a lot easier getting it painted beforehand...

Hi Jim. You should be just fine with the towers on their own. If you wanted to get a more evenly distributed sound throughout the rest of the 435 sq ft room, for instance when you're playing air hockey or hanging at the bar, you could consider possibly wall mounting a couple bookshelf speakers along one of the walls, maybe near the PS2 or the bar. Very nice to be painting before the carpet goes in. Good luck this weekend with that! And don't forget to have fun while in the midst of it. Cheers!

RE: Coming to a theater near you... (well, me actually)
My main concern with not having a sub is the question of what your receiver or pre/pro will do with the LFE channel output if there is no sub. Some can redirect it to the mains if they are set to large but others will just drop it. In any case, you could have phase/cancellation issues as well that you'll have to work around. Still, I'm jealous

RE: Coming to a theater near you... (well, me actually)
If you do not have a stand alone subwoofer, you simply set your receiver to subwoofer 'no' and set your front speakers to 'large'. This will redirect the LFE channel from the sub out, to the two front channels. As far as any phase/cancellation issues, it ultimately would depend on the room. However, with the spacing, reflection off the walls, etc, it would be far more the exception than the rule that you would have any issues with your low frequencies. -Korey

RE: Coming to a theater near you... (well, me actually)
I should have pics. of the finished space up in a couple of days. Unfortunately, I had some delivery issues with FedEx, and didn't get the speakers until the morning I flew out to Chicago last week. Also, the synergy SVDO stand came damaged, so I had replacements shipped while I was gone as well. I just got in late last night, so the speakers are still boxed! (I know, what a crime)... I am hoping to build the synergy rack and hook up the system tonight. I have to deal with our neighbor's kid who put a golfball through our bedroom window while I was away though first...

Okay, so I am trying to be patient and understanding but we are talking about home theater here - still can't wait to see this system!

RE: Coming to a theater near you... (well, me actually)
Well, I got the system set up (for the most part) last night. Still have some adjustments to make and some cables to hide. I haven't even set the levels to the speakers yet through the reciever or even played with the bass output of the PT's, but already my impressions are positive. I was amazed at the finish quality of the speakers when I first unpackaged them (and boy the pacakging job is impressive as well). The photos on the site do nothing to justify the finish of the piano gloss black cabinets. I was pleasantly suprised. The proportions and solidity of the speakers are top notch as well! When I got everything into the alcove last night, I was a little overwhelmed at how large everything was, or I guess actually how small the alcove is. I am using a 30" widescreen TV until getting a 42" plasma later in the year, so that will help to move the set back a little further from where we are sitting. It is a very intimate little theater! I popped in Pirates of the Carribean, and man was I happy to have an HT again! When the shot pulled back from Kiera Knightly sleeping, I was shocked to hear the flickering of the candle as the camera swept passed it. Like I said, I don't even have these fully broken in, or even set-up and tweaked yet and I was enjoyable suprised by many aspects of them. The powered towers blended seamlessly with the VAC center, making it almost impossible to locate a speakers' position by audible clues. They threw up 'wall of sound'. The bass seemed to blend very well in the towers as well, and again, I haven't even touched this or begun to play with any of the setting on the towers or the reciever, so it will only get better. I hope to post a full report by the end of the month, as I should have enough time in with them by then to give my thoughts. As for pictures, I will post some tomorrow (as I think I am going to bag work to play with my new toys)...
