Dumb and Dumber, what a classic flick.  I guess I haven't noticed that it's so good in surround, but the movie itself is amazingly funny.

'Mmmm..that sounds good, I'll have that'

RE: Your Top 5 Movies of all time!!!

Hey Lewis! Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and Sound of Music are classics and I fully agree with you! I would add Oliver Twist to the timeless great classics as well as The Pink Panther. I have seen and enjoyed these movies over and over as a child and have enjoyed them just as much as an adult. I'm looking forward to seeing the remake of Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. I have high doubts that it could ever be as good as the original with the magnificant Gene Wilder, but Jonny Depp has to be the best (or really only) possible actor to choose for the role of Willie Wonka. But nobody can replace Gene Wilder. As for the remake of The Pink Panther, again, this movie can never be remade, period. Peter Sellers was a genius in his own right and I cringe at the thought of Steve Martin (who I don't especially like anyhow) trying to emulate Peter Sellers. He has as much talent and humor as one of Seller's nose hairs. I can still watch Peter Sellers and end up with a stomach ache and tears from laughter. Nonetheless, I will try to see the remake, if only to honor this movie and the master comedian who made the movie. In my humble opinion, I think that with all the mass-market crap that is churned out of Hollywood yearly (i.e senless violence, basic plots that have been beaten to death, etc.), extremely and precious few movies could ever be as timeless as the ones mentioned above and as the first 2 in Lewis' list. BR, Sany.

RE: Your Top 5 Movies of all time!!!

So this list changes for me every day but based on consistency of appearance through the years my votes would have to be:

Best Film: The Godfathers I & II (The ultimate crescendo movies)

Best War Film: The Bridge on the River Kwai (honourable mention to Schindlers List)

Best Western: Unforgiven (a western that really looks at the characters)

Best Comedy: The Life of Brian (a film which you will quote for the rest of your life)

Best Drama: American Beauty (The Best Oscar winner for many years)

Best Action: The Matrix (Mind Bending Script when you watch it for the first time)

Best Cop Movie: LA Confidential (Should have mopped up the Oscars)

    Best Romance: The English Patient

Special Award for Best Disney: The Jungle Book

..... ok so that is more than 5 but I struggle to limit myself

RE: Your Top 5 Movies of all time!!!

    Here are my five

    1. Braveheart

    two words: mel gibson

    2. Scarface

It's just one of those movies that if you just catch a glimpse of it; you roll your sleeves and become Tony Montana.

    3. Gladiator

I'm not the only one that thinks this flick was incredible.

    4. The Natural

A little curveball here, but I grew up watching this thing over and over again.  The final scene still gives me goosebumbs.

    5. The Matrix

Hate Keanu Reeves but the story is so good you look past that.  Besides, what audiophile can say that they have never used this to test their speakers.

    Honorable mention

    GoodFellas

You have action and Joe makes me laugh throughout this movie

    Saving private Ryan

    good sound check

RE: Your Top 5 Movies of all time!!!

I lean toward the action type films. Most of my top 5 have been mentioned. However, I would have added:

    Schindler's List

Just thought I'd mention a couple of others that you might enjoy if you haven't seen them.

    For Fun :

    Pee Wee's Big Adventure

    Big Picture :

    Ran

    Drama :

12 Angry Men (I thought both versions were pretty good)

    Sad :

    Journey of Hope

Re: RE: Your Top 5 Movies of all time!!!

I have watched countless of beautiful movies yet I still want to watch them over and over again. :)

As a movie lover and an aspiring filmmaker, there are lots of movies that would cross my mind whenever I am asked what movies to be requested. But my top 5 movies are:

Pirates of the Carribean- at world's end
Lord of the Ring  - the return of the king
    Saving Private Ryan
    The Notebook
    Labyrinth

I finally got time to calibrate my 5Ts, 5C and Bravus 10D.  Placed the SPL on the tripod and got it right!  Dropped in Master and Commander on Blu-ray, and un-friggin' believable!!!   It may not be the best movie, but doubt you'll find a better movie to test your system.  You can run the new 5 series till paint peels off the wall, they just keep screaming for more.  I likey!

Re: RE: Your Top 5 Movies of all time!!!

    Hey Joe,

Funny you should mention Master and Commander. DTS placed a clip of it on the most recent itteration of their Demo disc a couple of years ago and we can't seem to get away from it. Part of it has to do with the fact that DTS hasn't issued anything new other than the BLU-Ray and *sniff sniff* HD-DVD demos which are mostly multi-channel music and some pretty HD landscapes (I'll be checking with DD and DTS as soon as I finish this post to see if they HAVE come up with something new)

The clip they include starts at the point in which the crew realizes there is a ship in the fog and they come under attack. Not only are the cannon blasts deep and extremely punchy but some of the scenes shot under the deck of the ship have some very convinving overhead footfall coded for the surrounds. It's just a very compelling demo. Even though I have seen it over 200 times and can recite the dialogue verbatim, I can't help but use it! With that Demo, the speakers pretty much sell themselves.

Re: RE: Your Top 5 Movies of all time!!!

I’m gonna’ exceed the limit, but…here goes (in no order of preference):

    • Lonesome Dove – Duval/Jones perfectly suited for their roles (great story helps, as well)…a real Epic.
    • Excalibur – (Boorman directing) – lighting and soundtrack are incredible, AND the Arthurian legend.
    • Aliens – anticipation builds for 30 mins, then…HOLD ON!  Action at its finest.
    • A Clockwork Orange – I gotta’ admit this, Stanley…you be “weird”.
    • Bronco Billy – Eastwood as lovable?  Hell YES!
    • Dumb & Dumber unbelievable stupidity…but it’s funny!
    • Lord of the Rings – all of them for the storyline, emotion and special effects.
    • Deliverance – another Boorman adventure with superb soundtrack and use of lighting.
    • The Wild Bunch – what can I say…great cast & best use of slo-mo in past 40 yrs.
    • One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest – seen a better Nicholson movie lately? Mixed emotions...funny or sad?

     That’s enough.
