Which movie and scene do you use to show off your system to your friends?

My current favorite is the Lord of the Rings, The Two Towers, chapter 41 in the standard edition.  It is the scene where the wall at Helms Deep is blown up.  There are some nice surround effect, but the wall exploding is sure go give your subwoofer a workout.

    Enjoy!

I spent a lot of time showing Austin Powers in Goldmember, chapter 1, at the HE 2004 show in NYC. Everyone seemed to get into the surround effects and James Bond-ish music. AND everyone got a few laughs as well. That wacky Tom Cruise.

I'd have to go along with Korey with Chapter 41 of LOTR, two towers (disc 2, chapter 21, on the extended version). Pretty sweet. Also Chapter 14 of the Italian Job.

Well, I don't have an Aperion system (yet), and I've been deprived of a home theater over the past year, since having our new home built, but the time is soon coming to impress both friends and relatives alike with the HT. One of my favorite 'demo' pieces has been the opening 'video game' sequence of Toy Story 2. Both the audio and visual really excell in this couple minute sequence. I used to have a stack of about 10 DVD's to 'show off', including some demo DVD's, and I could rattle of names and tracks like it was nothing, but like I said, I've been sadly deprived of an HT for the past year.

Funny, I just had to change the word 't i t l e s' to 'names', cause I got this when I posted: ****les. Guess you can't say ****? Yep, that's what I thought. Maybe the security sensors are set a little too high?

the D-Day scene in Saving private Ryan gives every speaker a good workout, and also the elevator explosion in the first Matrix movie.

The first battle scene in Master and Commander - when they are fighting in the fog.  Cannonballs are whizzing through my den and splintered wood is flying everywhere.  I literally ducked once!

The opening sequence of Ice Age is very good with an excellent transfer and detailed surround imaging.

Lilu's regeneration sequence in the Fifth Element can really give your dvd player a work-out.  It also has some terrific color, lighting and detail to show off your monitor.

I haven't had my system that long, but the I, Robot DVD has great sound and visuals. I'm sure it helped with my subwoofer break-in

Yeah, Master and Commander is, if not THE best, in the top five movies for best audio recording/production.

This soundtrack will give your system a killer workout.

Also, just watched 'Flight of the Pheonix' the other night and while it's not a standout movie, the bass in the initial crash scene is extremely intense!

For a great bass experience, try Chapter 25 in "Finding Nemo".  As far as I'm concerned, it sets the standard for sub-woofer demo.

Lately, I've been using "Standing in the Shadows of Motown" and the cut with Joan Osborne signing "What Becomes of the Broken Hearted?" I have this on my HD-DVR and the HD video production is first class, the audio mix is terrific, and Joan's singing is thrilling and uplifting. The bass runs and bass drum kicks really give the S12 Sub a workout and it comes through effortlessly. A real pleasure to see and hear.

Master and commander definately does the trick. The opening scene with exploding canon balls gets you ducking for cover. I believe the DTS format has a lot to do with the awesome sound effects.I first unwittingly watched "Hero" with Dolby Digital surround. Then at the end of the movie noticed the dvd also had DTS format. Tried out DTS and my jaw dropped to the floor . The sound quality was amazing. The first fight scene in the rain literally felt like the rain drops were falling right on top of my head.

I'm now scrambling to replace my movies with DTS. Not an easy task since not too many are authored in this format. Found a fairly ok selection of dts dvd's at buy.com.

Anyone else out there with an opinion about DTS vs. Dolby Digital Surround.

I would say I mostly show off the Pod Race from Star Wars Episode One.  Also the lightsaber sounds as Maul fights Qui-Gon at the end and the pass close by the camera are awesome.  I also show off a fight scene from Dragon: The Bruce Lee story where they fight on the set of 'The Big Boss'  When I used to own Lost In Space I would often show off the opening scene.  Also, Jurassic Park has great sound for showing off your system.  Crank up your system as loud as you can stand and listen to that T-rex roar!  Also, the end when the raptors are hunting for the kids has great sound.  I think two movies that will really shine on a nice system are ****anic when the boat breaks in half.  If you have a good system you will hear all theo boards splinter apart.  Also, Air Force One, if your system is not up to par it will sound strained and 'splattered', with a nice system it sounds AMAZING!

I would check out chapter 14 of Open Range, great DTS track.  I also like Day After Tomorrow for huge amounts of deep bass.  Recently I watched both Ghost in the shell II, and Appleseed. Both are top notch japanese animation with DTS.
