    Hi Nick,

You must be a NW guy because you have good taste in beer. Those are some of my favorites as well. If you like Fat Tire, you should check out Dick's Tripel. It's a belgian style beer that is really smooth and really strong. I think is is brewed in Washington. I too like Black Butte Porter and Spaten Dark. On a hot summer day nothing is more refreshing than a McMennamins Ruby.

    RE: favorite beer!??

Living just a few miles from Milwaukee, WI -  I wish I could say my favorite beer was some sort of Miller product, but it's not.  I do enjoy Highlife in mass quanities, but when it comes down to great taste I would have to say my favorites are:

    1. Heineken

    2. Blue Moon

    3. A nearby brewery -- New Glarus Fat Squirrel

    4. Spaten

    Hi Rich,

No disrespect to our friends in the NE. You guys have some great beers up there as well and I have to give you props for starting the thread. Our engineer is a true micro brew conniseur so I would expect him to weigh in next week when he is back from vacation (probably sampling a few new ones this week if I know him) so he should have some fresh picks.

    RE: favorite beer!??

Being described on our site as a “Microbrew Aficionado” there seems no way to avoid this “brew ha ha”.

But I’d be delighted to list my favorite brews anyway.  My tastes in beer (unlike my tastes is speakers I should add) is unsubtle, bold and in one’s face.  My top five right now:

    1)     Rogue’s Imperial Stout from Oregon.  It was made in 7 oz bottles.  The faint-of-heart were found searching for friend’s to help them share one of these.

    2)     Sam Adam’s Triple Boch.  If you’ve written Sam Adams off as a Micro-Coors you need to find one of these.  Actually a step up the ladder from the Rogue.

    3)     Dogfish Head’s 90 Minute IPA from Delaware.  It’s supposed to last 90 minutes but it’s never worked that way for me.

    4)     Hawk's Russian Imperial Stout from Roseburg Oregon.  Hawk’s style is very smooth but huge and rich.  Let one of these evaporate in your glass and marvel at what’s left.

    5)     Hopasaurus Rex made by Steelhead in my hometown of Eugene Oregon.  It’s an over-the-top-hoppy IPA in the style the NW is famous for.

So it’s pretty obvious that I live in Beer Heaven.  What a happy coincidence!

What about a slammin’ yard-beer you might ask?  For me, it’s Spaten Pils, Becks (yup!) or Pilsner Urquell.  So why can’t we Americans beat the Euros in the Pilsner category like we do with the big beers?  Here we are after work contemplating this very question:

    Ken
