I've dealt with J&R a couple of times before. They are a highly reputable dealer with some incredible pricing quite often. The most important thing I've found when purchasing an HK receiver is to be sure that the place you are buying it from is an authorized HK dealer. Often times you will find receivers really cheap through various on-line retailers. However, if the equipment is faulty and you try to go through HK for warranty repair they won't honor your proof of purchase if bought from an unauthorized dealer. As you can see by accessing the following link, J&R is an authorized on-line distributor of HK products. Therefore, you should have no worries purchasing from J&R. Even if something went wrong with the receiver outside the return period for J&R, you could have HK replace/repair the unit for the cost of shipping. It typically takes around 7-10 business days for the repair center to turn around a repair request.
While I have not auditioned the 1005, I currently own the 2005 and let me tell you .............. the sound it produces through my Aperion's is something to behold. I had previously owned an AVR630 which I sold because of an incredible deal I got on a 2005. I was hesitant at first because I couldn't imagine a receiver sounding better than the AVR630. My upgraditis got the best of me and I'm not regretting my purchase in any way. You will hear arguments made both for and against HK products. My experience has been positive with HK products. As a matter of fact I just purchased some HK computer speakers a few weeks ago.
While I may not be the most technical guy to discuss the specifics of this receiver with, I can refer you to a couple of places where the DPR 1005 and 2005 are discussed at length. The site is www.avsforum.com . You will see a link called "Amps, Receivers, and Processors". You should then type in DPR2005 in the search window in the upper right hand corner (make sure it is the one that says "search this forum:Current"). This will give you a great deal of threads concerning both the 2005 and 1005. I hope this helps
