Hi,

Just bought a new home and am planning to buy all new equipment for HT and Audio .

While I would love to put this system in the "dining room" I'm getting pushback from, well, take a guess!

So it looks like the living room is the way to go.  I'm a little concerned with the opening from the hallway -- the wall flows straight out and hanging a speaker there will be met with, shall I say, a frown.

There's a finished basement beneath this space, with a hung ceiling -- it must be possible to snake wires through the walls.

I listen to vinyl and CDs -- mostly pop/rock -- and watch normal TV and movies -- the usual stuff.  Thinking of a Panasonic 42" DLP plasma (monitor only or receiver?).  Have a choice of DirectTV or cable.  The only hardware I'm keeping from my current rig is my vintage Marantz direct-drive turntable.

In your LR, I would orient the viewing position towards the 12' wall.  (if North is up - to the West).  This will allow your FCR speakers to be along the West wall, and fairly unobstrusive to the space.  Position your couch/chairs about 10'-12' back from the screen, and position the rear channel speakers on some nice bookshelfs or display racks; one in the rear (SE) corner and one along the short wall of the NE corner.  Take one shelf on each to place a bookshelf speaker and give the rest to the wife to display some of here things.  This would probably be your best WAF layout, and it will sound pretty good too!
