I am in the process of building a stereo system and I have hit a roadblock on deciding which subwoofer to purchase. The two that I am looking at are Aperion S8-APR and Outlaw Audio LFM-1 Compact.

On looks alone the Aperion would be the winner. Hands down! But I do not want to go on looks alone. They both are the same price and they both are geared towards those who have limited space.(I will have this system in my dorm.)  The Aperion subwoofer has 150watts while the Outlaw Audio has 225watts.  I know higher watts do not normally translate into better performance, but this is Outlaw Audio and I trust them.

Any suggestions?

Andre, you may have already pulled the trigger, but I would recommend the Aperion for the following reasons:

1. Aperion builds speakers and subs only.  Outlaw builds components and is now getting into the sub/speaker market.

2. Although I haven't heard the Outlaw sub you mention, the S8-APR sounds great and is highly recommendable!

That said, you could bring both home and audition each in your system with Aperion's and Outlaw's in-home trial periods.

Even though this thread is old, I thought I would add my Outlaw sub experience to it. I just bought 2 Aperion power towers, center channel and surround sound speakers.  I planned on keeping a 10 year old low end Atlantic Technology subwoofer (yes they made some cheaper stuff 10 years ago to sell thru catalogs).  Unfortunately the sub started to die so I was debating between the 12 inch Aperion subwoofer and the new Outlaw LFM1 EX.  I decided to try the Outlaw because there are already small subwoofers in the Aperion towers so I figured I should try the speaker that can go the deepest and the Outlaw has received rave reviews.  Bottomline, the Outlaw is an incredible subwoofer but it is probably too much for most people.  I know my wife would have been happier with the Aperion 12 incher.   The Outlaw is gigantic and their is nothing more realistic than its window rattling bass but is this really what you need to enjoy movies?  I find it incredible that the Outlaw is only considered midsized.  I have it set at less than 1/3 volume and the impact is incredible.  But how much shaking do you need.  The Outlaw is everything it claims to be.  But I would probably have been better off without it.  You might be too.
