    Subwoofer Auto-On Feature Not working

I recently hooked-up an S-10 subwoofer to my HT system.  Although the subwoofer does work, the auto-on switch position does not turn on the subwoofer when it receives a signal.  I have to switch it "On" for the subwoofer to work.  At first I thought it had to do with the crossover frequency that was set in my receiver.  I quickly eliminated this as an issue when I realized that when I simply switched the subwoofer "On", it produced sound.

Any ideas, or do I just have a slightly defective subwoofer??

     Thanks.

Re: Subwoofer Auto-On Feature Not working

I've had the same problem with my HSU STF-1 sub.  The Auto-on never seems to work unless I turn the sub level setting in the receiver up really high and even then it sometimes doesn't go on.  Now I just use the "on" switch, same as you.  I've tried everything to get the Auto-On to work as intended with my sub.  I've tried a 'Y' connector, different cables, different receiver, but the auto-on still doesn't work. Hopefully someone has some good suggestions to try.

    Eromund,

I have the S-10 and run it in Auto. Bass is output with very little LFE input.

If this is a problem with all input sources from the AVR, then you may have a defective amp. Aperion will send you a replacement amp if under 3 years old or replace the S-10 if less than 30 days old at no cost to you.

Are you using the LFE input on the S-10 or speaker level?

I did notice that after doing a number of manual adjustments in my AVR setup that the S-10 did not turn on in Auto when SDTV was the input. It did turn on with DVD input where a dedicated LFE was recorded.

I RESET the AVR to factory settings, ran the speaker calibration and then SDTV turned the sub on in Auto. I don’t know why this happened.

I would want the S-10 to perform as designed.

This thread may work better in the speaker forum.

Re: Subwoofer Auto-On Feature Not working

    Hi Guys,

This problem is almost always attributed to insufficient subwoofer output from your receiver. There are other issues as well and most of them point to the auto setup that is provided in most receivers today (Audyssey, YPAO MCACC etc etc)  One of the common indicators that there is a setup problem is that your suwoofer's volume dial is set above the half way point. (this is but one of many)  There are several factors so for troubleshooting, we suggest that you give us a call or start a live chat with us while you are near your equipment. We can usually solve the problem in 3-4 minutes on the phone. If you used the auto set-up that I mentioned, we can usually help correct the other inaccurate settings that were made while we're at it.

We'll look forward to hearing from you!
