Being described on our site as a “Microbrew Aficionado” there seems no way to avoid this “brew ha ha”.
But I’d be delighted to list my favorite brews anyway. My tastes in beer (unlike my tastes is speakers I should add) is unsubtle, bold and in one’s face. My top five right now:
1) Rogue’s Imperial Stout from Oregon. It was made in 7 oz bottles. The faint-of-heart were found searching for friend’s to help them share one of these.
2) Sam Adam’s Triple Boch. If you’ve written Sam Adams off as a Micro-Coors you need to find one of these. Actually a step up the ladder from the Rogue.
3) Dogfish Head’s 90 Minute IPA from Delaware. It’s supposed to last 90 minutes but it’s never worked that way for me.
4) Hawk's Russian Imperial Stout from Roseburg Oregon. Hawk’s style is very smooth but huge and rich. Let one of these evaporate in your glass and marvel at what’s left.
5) Hopasaurus Rex made by Steelhead in my hometown of Eugene Oregon. It’s an over-the-top-hoppy IPA in the style the NW is famous for.
So it’s pretty obvious that I live in Beer Heaven. What a happy coincidence!
What about a slammin’ yard-beer you might ask? For me, it’s Spaten Pils, Becks (yup!) or Pilsner Urquell. So why can’t we Americans beat the Euros in the Pilsner category like we do with the big beers? Here we are after work contemplating this very question:
