Bit of a buzz with my surround speakers

I bought my Aperion system about 6 or 7 months ago. If I remember correctly it was called the Cinema system (532LR, 422LR, S12 sub, 532VAC). Everything sounds great and I love the speakers, but over the past month or so I'm getting a buzz out of the 422s. It's not a constant buzz, in fact it's pretty random. Sometimes followed by a small 'pop' but usually it's not.

I'm an amateur (at best) at setting up speakers so I figure it's something I've done wrong with the wiring. Does anybody have any ideas on what might be causing this?

I have a couple of ideas what might be the problem, but maybe it's something totally different. My thoughts are:

    1) The wires running to the speakers are too close together. I've run them basically on top of each other along the wall.

    2) The wires running to the speakers are too long. About 9' in length.

    3) Those missing screws were really important. When I was setting up the speakers I dropped and lost 2 of the mini-screws that connect the banana plugs to the wire, so each of the back speakers has 1 screw holding the plug in place/making a connection.

Could it be one of these things? Something else? Thanks so much for your help.

    Hey Justin,

Hmmm, if you are having the problem with both speakers it is most likely an issue related to the receiver.  The wires being too close to each other or their length is most likely not the issue and the missing screw shouldn't matter either.  Of course you can troubleshoot the banana plug connection by just getting rid of the plugs and threading the bare wire directly through the binding post.

One thing you could do to make absolutely sure it is not the receiver would be to switch the wires for the front inputs and rear inputs, if you hear the buzz and pops coming from your 532s it is a problem with your receiver's rear channels.  If you still hear the buzzing from the 422s it is probably either the wire or the speakers.

What type of receiver are you using?  That may give me some clues as to the exact nature of the problem.  Please feel free to give us a call or log into webchat too, thanks!

    Justin,

It may be something as simple as the grill vibration/rattling!  If the sound is coming from both that is more pretty unlikely but if only one then trying putting some pressure on the grill and see if it stops.  Othere than that, the pop that happen sometimes suggests it could also be your reciever.  The 9' wire length is not a problem unless you are using itsy bitty wires.  I don't think interference would make a buzzing noise unless a power cord is in there as well and then it would be constant.  As far as the banans plugs go, if you can pull the banana plug out bu pulling on only the wire it is secure enough.

     Cheers
