    5DB Speaker Placement

I wanted to know where I should place these speakers. I have a 5.1 system (5T, 5C, 12D and 5DB) The two options are:

    1.  On the wall about 6 inches ahead of the listening position.  Meaing the back edge of the speaker would be centered on the listening position,

     2.  On the SAME wall  (not both speakers on the same wall but same wall as option #1) about 3 feet behind the listening position.

Also, if it matters, the side walls are about 6 feet from either side of the couch.

I plan on placing the speakers about 6' from the floor.  Good height?

    Thanks for your help!!

    Re: 5DB Speaker Placement

    Hey there,

Welcome to the forum!  Six feet is an ideal height for the 5DBs so you are good there.  As for your placement options, I assume that you can't get them directly to your sides as that is the best place to put them, so in that case I would probably go with the three feet behind you option as you want to avoid putting a surround speaker in front of you if possible.

However, you want to give them some space from the back wall, so if the back wall is only four feet or less behind you, making the 5DB a foot or less from the back wall then that isn't going to work very well either.  If the 5DB gets too close to the wall the reflections will bounce back and forth between the wall and the speaker and won't reach your ear in the intended manner.

Honestly, if you don't have much room between the back wall and the speaker you might just want to go with 5Bs and then angle them toward your sitting position, since you can't have received the 5DBs yet as the intial shipment still hasn't arrived.

Hope that helps but let me know if you have any other questions, thanks!
