    Intimus 4C Center

I'm creating this post for feedback on the 4C center channel.  I know it's not a very large speaker but I've got a major barrier regarding it's placement.  My space (height) is limited to 6" and it's been very difficult finding an audiophile-grade center with this limitation.  Behold, Aperio has one that will fit.  Nice.  It will be replacing a Celestion F35C which, over the past couple of years has become colored, dull and pretty much uninspiring.  For those who own one (or have heard) what does it deliver?  I'm looking for a neutral presentation (and should I dare ask) transparancy.  Aperion fills the quality need but now it's the sound that must be confirmed.  For what's it's worth, my mains are Axiom M3t's with a BIC V1220 sub...Polk RSM's round out the 6.1. If this 4C can delivery anything close to the Axiom M3ti in terms of their forward, yet slightly warm presentation, I'm in.  My first choice for a new center (sorry Aperionites) is the Axiom but, as stated early in the post, I just don't have the room.  Thank you in advance for your replies.  I'm hoping to hear this speaker will be worth the effort in the research.

    Rich,

I have the 5C so I can't/won't comment on the 4C but one of the greatest things about Aperion is their no risk 30 day trial. And they really do mean no risk. They ship the speaker to you at no charge, you hook it up and listen to it for 30 days and, if you don't care for it, you send it back and they pay for the return shipping.

You're right that in this forum you'll probably only hear positive comments about Aperion speakers (for very good reason I might add).  But the best way for you to know that they play nicely with your setup is to pull the trigger and try them in your home.

Good luck! I'm sure everyone will want to know what you decide to do and how it worked out.

If you can't have fun doing it, it's probably not worth doing.

    Re: Intimus 4C Center

    Rich,

    Welcome to the Aperion forums!

A good place to start would be to think about your room size....If you have a smaller room I think it would be fair to expect great things from the 4C. however if you are wanting to fullfill the Center Channel demands of a medium to larger room size (15x20 or above) then you may be disapointed depending on your expectations. The 4C will have similar tonal qualities as the larger Aperion centers becuase it has the same tweeter and driver materials but obviously it's dirivers are smaller and it lacks a dedicated 4" driver in a vertical alignment.  This limits the speakers ability to project sound.  Thus the realistic expecations vs room size ?

What I can tell you is Aperion makes a beautiful, well constructed product that has pleased the ears of many amature and professional audiophiles.  However, it is always important to pick the right size speaker for the application.  Aperion offers an interactive system builder under the products menu. Check it out to see if the 4C is a good start for you.

     Best of luck to you.

    Re: Intimus 4C Center

Thanks for your input.  As stated, it's going to replace a Celestion F35C which is almost idential to driver & overall size of the 4C.  In terms of dynamics the Celestion is serving well so the 4" OD should work okay within my room parameters.  I'm looking for the 4C to be less colored and more neutral.  The placement however is where I have the biggest concern.  If I could I would go with a larger size center but 6" is the max in height I can go.   I've been reading your forum for the past three days and I am very much convinced the build quality and performance of the Aperions are solid and without question.  Looks like I'll be placing my order soon.  Although I'm a fan of metal drivers, the soft dome tweeter will be a nice sonic fit with my Polk surrounds.  I just love shopping for new gear.

    Great to hear it.

Aperions should compete very, very well against any similar sized competition.  I have to warn you, that new tweeter that Aperion puts in their speakers will pummle your AVR..It is crisp, clear and will take whatever you can throw at it :).  Aperion shoots for flat frequency response so a neutral sound shouldn't be a problem.

Be careful...Upgradeitus is a catchy bug around here...You may soon find yourself wanting more Aperion speakers!  Just remember, Aperion uses the same tweeters and driver materials in all their lines so they are easy to mix and match!

Best of luck and let us know how it turns out!

    Dan.

Dan - I can talk about good speakers all day.  Discussing the X's & O's is a great way to learn about new audio products but what I'm beginning to hear from this post is what I was looking for...passion.  Exceptional loudspeakers brings this out of most owners who are willing to share their audio experience.  Although spending gobs of money on speakers usually gives a decent return, that's not always true.  Case in point - I own Axiom M3t's bookshelves and won't part with them.  Ever!   This is what I want to experience with Aperion, starting with the C4. Now, I'm very much intrigued on how their new tweeter will sound in my HT.  I will certainly let you know my experience when it's purchased, installed and broken in.
