Well I have had quite a bit more time with my new toys and though I would share some setup settings I have changed. By the way, the 5B's are still breaking in, they do take some time.
I had my AVR settings as: Fronts small, sub woofer yes, crossover 80 HZ. Sub woofer level to -6db.
I continued tweaking but I was having a problem in the lower midrange, something seemed to be missing and something seemed to be excessive. I decided to play with the Bravus Parametic Equalization. I set the pe center freqency to 80hz, pe width to normal and the pe level to alternately -3db and -6 db. This seemed to help only a bit but it did give me a clue. The 5B puts out significant bass at its lower reaches, I began to think the 80Hz crossover was removing to much of the lower mid range from the 5B and making the 8D handle this duty which I believe is not ideal. I cleared the pe settings and changed the crossover on the AVR to 60. I think 70 might be the best but not an option on my Onkyo 503. This change made a very noticable positive effect. I listened for a while and decided to try one more thing. I set the fronts on the AVR to large, making the 5Bs run full range. Ahhh, Sweet.
EDIT: After some more break in I have reverted back to small on the fronts.
Current settings, AVR settings as: Fronts Small, sub woofer yes, crossover 60 HZ, Tone controls Trebble -2. Sub woofer level -6db.
My 8D and 5Bs are still not in their final room position which will allow me more room to adjust sub positioning and front seperation but even in their sub par position they are sounding very nice indeed.
Cheers
Russ
