    Which wall mount?

I need to hang my 5B's (using as surrounds) on the wall behind my sofa. Sounds easy, but the walls they need to be mounted to are perpendicular to the room.  The mount would have to attach to the wall, come out straight, then do a 90 degree turn and attach to the 5B.  If you look at my gallery picture at http://www.aperionaudio.com/community/forums/thread/6942.aspx you'll get a better idea of what I mean.

Since that opening behind the couch is so high I need to angle the 5B's down more than they are. I have some foam packing material under them now but it's not enough and if I add more I'm araid they'll just fall over.

Would the Omni mount work?  I realize it's for a ceiling but would it have enough vertical support to hold a 5B?  Would it come out far enough to allow me to angle the speakers down a good 45 degrees? Any other ideas?

     Thanks

    Hey Joe,

So just to be sure that I understand, you want to use the omni ceiling mount with the speaker coming out perpendicularly from the wall and facing directly down?  If that is what you want to do I can hook one up like that and see how stable it is.

If you use the B-Tech pivot wall mount you can get close to 45 degress of down angle, in the vicinity of 30 to 40 degrees.

    Jason,

I'm not sure that'll work from what I can tell in the description of the B-Tech.  The mount will make an L coming out of the wall and then connect to the 5B.  I'd need to then adjust the 5B up/down and left/right.  Does that make more sense?  If I'm successful there will be a drawing along with this post - the view is from above the speaker.

Or...I could have this guy sit up there and mount the 5B's to the end of his moustache.

    Hey Joe,

Was that a bar napkin drawing? If so that's sweet!

ewwww, for the record we do not suggest using facial hair, regardless of the length as a mount.    Wink

As for using the ceiling mount in that orientation, its probably not the best idea since you will be considerably shifting the center of gravity from its intended use.

Instead I would try the Omni 30 mount since it can handle up to 30 lbs it will be a much safer bet.

Thanks Jason, I'll check that out.

Yes, that drawing is on a bar napkin - Dan's drawings are more precise but mine have a glass of beer nearby.

Unless you've gotten rid of your award winning moustache, that guy is a picture of you in about 20 years.  :-)

Ha, my wife took care of that long ago, I feel lucky that she tolerated it for two weeks without filing for divorce!
