    Soundproofing Rooms

I was wondering if any gurus or fellow aperion owners have any experience soundproofing rooms? I live in an apartment building in NY and will be moving in the future but before I move I want to make sure that the new place will have a room that will help dampen sound so that I can listen to movies with a bit of a boom without pissing off the neighbors. I From the research I've done thus far, it seems like it just takes some sound absorbing material and putting it up over the dry wall. Is it then useful to follow that up with some acoustic paneling? Anybody else live in an apartment and have come up with a creative way to prevent the neighbors from getting irritated? I fear the power of my 8D will piss them off sooner rather than later.    :) Maybe I should just invite them over to watch a movie.....

Yeah just normal decorations, wall hangings and drapes will definitely help.

We use fiberglass acoustic panels in our sound room, and I'm not sure if we just covered them with cloth ourselves or if they came that way, but they definitely absorb a good amount of sound.

Here's a good website that offers some very nice soundproofing materials, not especially cheap though:

If you want to go super low budget you could try putting up some eggshell foam that is intended as a mattress pad and that will also create some insulation between you and your neighbors.

    Re: Soundproofing Rooms

Thanks a lot Jason. I just suggested to my wife that we hang mattress pads on our walls and she tossed me out of the house.  The bad news is, my HT system is in the house! Sad

Anyway,  I did some research on all of this awhile back.  What you want to do is fire up Google and type in "sound absorption".  You'll find a lot of products but you'll also find some information on what to look for - yell if it gets confusing (it will).
