    Speaker Stands for 5D Surrounds

I'm beginning to assemble 42" Raxxess speaker stands and have a question regarding filling them with sand for acoustical decoupling.  The instructions present this as an option.  Once I glue them together that option may no longer be practical. So should I do this? The stands are 100%compressed wood approx. 3/4" thick.  The top of the stands supporting the speakers are flat and roughly the same size as the speaker's footprint. The cross section of the support is square with a channel running the length of the stand that is 3.5" along each side. So the channel is long and narrow. The stands will be on carpet, at least where I now reside.

    Any thoughts?

Hey lorenzo welcome to the forum,

It certainly won't hurt to fill them with sand as it will make the stand more acoustically stable.  I'm not sure it will make a huge difference since there isn't a ton of low frequency sound that will be produced by the 5DBs, but if you are thinking about doing it anyway you might as well go for it.

Thanks for the welcome. After a couple of months with my system, I can enthusiastically say it's great to be an Aperion owner. Absolutely love my gear. Absolutely loved interfacing with your company, etc, etc.

The difficulty was the stand manufacturer advised putting the sand in a 4 mil thick plastic bag. Given the shape of the channel, there was no way to find something that size and thickness.  If I could have gotten ahold of an elephant condom it probably would have worked.  But how can you ask around for an elephant condom?  I like elephants but I don't want anyone thinking I love them . I could have tailored something but the problem is I have a life. So I doubled a couple of trash can liners and dumped in the sand. If it holds, easy solution.  If it doesn't, hopefully sand all over the family room won't really bother my wife.

The important thing is I have the peace of mind of knowing I did absolutely everything possible to defend the full capabilities of my Aperion 5D-s.  Thanks for your input.

This is easily the most awesome post to have ever graced our forums.

Best of luck with the sand and pseudo-pachyderm-prophylactics!  Big Smile

Thanks, Jason.  So far there are no apparent sand dunes in our family room. If they do appear, and my wife unloads, you'll be sharing the blame with me. This would be a good time to unlist your phone numbers and think about a suitable alias.
