guitarjim721:Hi Jason,
I just purchased a complete 7.1 system (haven't got the speakers yet) and I am trying to plan speaker placement and mounting. Is the picture of the speaker upside down? If not, it looks as though the wall plate would be visible above the speaker.
Will the supplied mounts hold a speaker that is angled downward? I have to place my side surrounds about 5 feet above the listeners ears and was planning to angle them down a bit by mounting wedges to the walls and then mounting the wall plates to the wedges. Do you think this will work with the 5DB speakers and supplied mounts or is angling them down a waste of time? I've read in a few places that dipole/bipole speakers mounted too high should be angled down towards the listening area. Your thoughts on this would be appreatiated.
Thanks,
Jim

I feel like perhaps I spoke with you on the phone earlier...
You can mount them a bit higher, and angling should not be a problem. Although that would depend on the amount of angle somewhat...The picture in this thread clearly shows how the speaker mounts to the wall. I think too much of an angle would put too much stress on the mount and would not offer as much security as it being flush with a straight vertical wall.
If need be you could actually use the B Tech Pivoting Wall Mount with the 5DB and get a bit more angle action going on. I don't think angling them is too much of an issue. In both of our demo rooms, we have the speakers about 7 feet off the ground and it sound rather nice. It helps add to the non-localizable sound field that comes from these speakers and really make it sound more like what you would hear in an actual movie theater.
As far as conceling wire goes, the back of the speaker does have that groove in it to lie your wire into. You can see it in the pictures above...it looks like a black strip. You can lie the wire in that if you have a hole drilled directly behind the speaker and that works quite nicely...
Hope this info helped. Sorry to steal Jason's thunder...
