    Amp Switchbox

I spoke with Jason Hicks the other day and wanted to see how many others would be interested in purchasing an Amp Switchbox which would let you test two amps on a single pair of speakers. I suggested that Aperion look into selling a good type like the sonance (since they're really hard to get unless you know a professional electrician). I just ordered a Niles amp switcher to do some A/B-ing with the 5T's and I remember reading that Dan also did some Amp switching by manually disconnecting. Just wondering if there was much interest. :)
    Speakers: Aperion 6T's, 6C, 4B's, and 8D
Receivers: Onkyo 805 and Pioneer SX-1050
    DVD player: Oppo 981HD
    TT: Pioneer PL-71
    Amp Selector: Niles DPS-1

I bet there would not be much interest in purchasing one. I don't think too many people want to switch between two amps.

Now if you could rent one....there is a market. Imagine that you are in the market for an amp, and have it narrowed down. Most stores have a return policy, so you could actually "buy" the two or three you were interested in, and A/B between them. Keep the one you like the best, and return the other(s). I most certainly would have done this. I was torn between the Onkyo 805 and the Denon 2808. I could only go on what the folks on AVS/CNET, etc. said. Would have been nice indeed. I did go with the Onkyo 805, and have no regrets. But....I will never know. Perhaps ignorance is bliss?

Ah. Very interesting idea. I wanted to separate my stereo system from the 5.1 system hence the need for 2 amps. I also wanted to tie my very old pioneer turntable in with an old monster pioneer receiver. But its true that it may not have as much of a following. :(

    Re: Amp Switchbox

You know, guys, I think you might be on to something here.

I think it would be a great idea to have a few of both an amp switcher and speaker switcher that would assist folks with auditioning equipment, be it speakers or otherwise. If Aperion were to have some of each on hand avaialble for "rent" then we could charge those interested a modest rental fee that would essentially cover the cost of shipping the item plus a small deposit to make sure we got the thing back. The switch boxes would be avaliable to Aperion customers who might want to test upgrade ideas, audition Aperion speakers next to an alternate choice and even test different receivers to determine what amp worked best with their Aperion system.

To me, it seems like anything that made an in-home audition better and easier for the consumer is something we would be interested in providing. Plus, I think it would be a rather unique service to offer to customers. I'll look into this and see if I can make it fly.
