Hmmm, well when you go to the 906 (or 905) you do get a torodial transformer which delivers super clean power without as many peaks as a block transformer, and torodial transformers are also more efficient.
Do you need a receiver with a torodial transformer? Well that my friend is in the ear of the beholder. 
Oh yeah THD stands for total harmonic distortion, basically what percentage of what you hear is the true source waveform and what is distortion introduced by the amp, so the lower the THD percentage the more you are hearing an accurate reproduction of the source material.
