With all things considered..Cost, features and performance I see no reason why you shouldn't give the 805 a try. Weighing in at nearly 50lbs it has a serious supply of power... if i had $600 to spend I would do it.  I only had $250 to spend and the AVR-3805 was my best choice.

    Read this:

    http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/volume_14_3/onkyo-tx-sr805-receiver-9-2006-part-1.html

    I'm saving for a pair of 5T's..

6ave has the 806 for 574 new and the 806 for 720 new... Worth the extra 140?

Fine... If you both so unanimously agree that an 805/806 is the absolute best way to go that is what i will buy. And just to confirm there is no need for me to step up to the 900 series or above?

    THANKS :)

I was gonna do a comparison of the 92 and 82 for you just for fun, give me a couple of hours and I'll get on it.

Hmmm, well when you go to the 906 (or 905) you do get a torodial transformer which delivers super clean power without as many peaks as a block transformer, and torodial transformers are also more efficient.

Do you need a receiver with a torodial transformer?  Well that my friend is in the ear of the beholder.   Wink

Oh yeah THD stands for total harmonic distortion, basically what percentage of what you hear is the true source waveform and what is distortion introduced by the amp, so the lower the THD percentage the more you are hearing an accurate reproduction of the source material.  If you want to read up on the physics involved check this out:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Total_harmonic_distortion

Hmmm apparently linking in Firefox 2.0 isn't working, interesting. . .

Only if you need the extra two HDMI inputs.

The 806 also has a night listening mode that boosts the channel levels of your surrounds and keeps the dynamic range in tact when you lower your master volume which is cool but not a huge deal in my opinion.

Re: What to buy, i have 606

Here is another stupid question. Why is it the 805 doesnt upconvert to 1080. Unless im reading it wrong doesnt my 606 upconvert to 1080 for non HD signals? It just looking at the competitive recievers in that range none of them seem to have that problem?

The 805 and 606 both upscale to 1080i, to get 1080p upscaling you need to go to the 706 in the new line or the 875 in the old line.

If you want to read up on the difference between 1080i and 1080p check this out:

Re: What to buy, i have 606

1080i is not a problem. I though i read even in this forum that the 805 only upscales to 720p hmm....

My bad, you are right, looks like I got some bad info from another site.

But here's a video that claims that 720p is preferable to 1080i:

Re: What to buy, i have 606

Also just for fun I compared the Pioneer VSX82 and 92, looks like the 82 came out before the lossless surround formats of DTS-HD and Dolby True HD were launched so it only has DTS-ES and Dolby Pro Logic II, I would want to get a receiver with the latest codecs.
