10 D subwoofer - question

    10 D subwoofer - question

    I am in the trial of a 7.1 aperion system.  System consists of 6 x 5 b's, 1 x 5 c and

    1x 10 d subwoofer.   I have it hooked up to a Denon 3808 cl.  I

am impressed with the sound when the volume is turned up high.  Nice clarity and

powerful bass can rock the movie room.   However, I notice

when I turn the volume on the receiver to lower volume (-38 or so) the sub has a

tendency to cut in and out and not play consistent, most notably during movies. An

explosion sound will start and half way through completely cut out.  And even though you

know you should be hearing some bass, there is nothing and then all of a sudden it kicks on again

only to cut out.  Really annoying.

I have made all the adjustments to the Denon subwoofer options that I could and nothing seems to improve

the situation. I have read the sub's manual and all the settings are completely confusing

to me.  ( I am not an audio head by any stretch).  Anyway, was wondering if anyone can give me advise or tell

me one way or another if it is possible to have the sub play at lower volumes? Or am I stuck with having to

crank it up to get bass in the room?  The 5b's and 5c dont cut it alone for providing what I would consider

a satisfying bass sound at lower volumes.  I read one owners post on this  forum before I purchased and he   raved over the fact

that he still heard the deep rumble of the bass, even after he put his kids to bed.  I want that. I have three

young kids and it would be really nice to still feel  submersed in a movie even at lower volumes.

    Any ideas?

Hopefully can post some pics of my media room.

    Thanks
