i couldn't disagree more. i actually first saw the movie and then read the comic. i was simply mesmerized by the imagery, story, subtle hidden messages, political references and the overall cinematography. to be honest, i liked snyder's ending a lot more than moore's. a giant exploding squid seemed a bit too unadorned as the grand finale of a sophisticated and greatly metaphorical story.

perception of "length" is very subjective so i wouldn't count that as a negative. to many, the 3 hours weren't long enough as it still missed lots of little intricacies found in the comic book. the ultimate cut, that just came out a few weeks ago, does the movie and the story better justice. it is 3.5 hours long, but just as the return of the king extended edition, it's worth every minute.

For those of us not interested in the comic, it was/is excruciating.   I would imagine it's the same for someone not interested in the LotR books.  A 3.5 hour movie is too long for a story you're not really interested in.
